Lurker 06-05-08, - 02:32 PM Are you talking about the prepaid card for the public busses? And no I don't have either one..... Yep -- friend of mine is a principal of the company, which is a Bahamian company. They are in pilot testing now. I just wanted to see how many people have heard of it after a downtown blitz. chancellor 06-05-08, - 02:33 PM Is that the United Transportation Company? or is this another company? songbird 06-05-08, - 02:34 PM Yep -- friend of mine is a principal of the company, which is a Bahamian company. Anyone who has one, knows what I mean. I don't do buses, but I may just take my nieces on an adventure when they are here in the summer! BOL! They are American little girls that don't have a clue what public buses are and have probably ridden the train once other than the one on ATL airport! chancellor 06-05-08, - 02:43 PM That's cool, The next time I have to take the bus I'll try it. It beats having to pull out dig for my money every trip. Lurker 06-05-08, - 02:49 PM The Mango Initiative is a stored value card. You actually carry the money on the card. Lose the card and lose the money. The initiative is lead by PTAB (Public Transportation Association of the Bahamas) and Reuben Rahming, and over 60% of all of the buses will participate. If you notice, these are the buses that have uniformed drivers, who are professional, who do not drive like a bat out of hell, are all connected by radio, and the buses have advertising on the side, which makes big bucks for the drivers. Props to Rahming for bringing the Bahamas into the 21rst century as far as buses are concerned. The good news is that the Mango card will be used for newspapers, wash houses, fast food and other things. It will carry up to $99 dollars on it. So it's a better pre-paid card!:bouncy: Teniel 06-05-08, - 02:55 PM I have heard of this initiative and am in full support of it. It was said that once a cashless bus system was implemented, buses can run later, particularly for hotel workers that work late in the night. chancellor 06-05-08, - 02:56 PM So the bussing system is fixing itself for real? I was on a wait and see approach to this. GenX 06-05-08, - 02:57 PM The Mango Initiative is a stored value card. You actually carry the money on the card. Lose the card and lose the money. Sounds like da Mango will be a REAL bahamian prepaid card.Reuben Rahming is doing an excellent job.Good to see a young person who is willing to make changes instead of just settling for the norm. I will be going also so I will be picky. When they come to town I always do an activity with them that will last the entire day. I will park my car somewhere central and take the bus to town and back where my car is. Then we are supposed to go to Dolphin Encounter of Adastra Gdns. Mind u they are 4 and 21/2 but they look forward to hanging with Auntie! One trip we spent the day at Good Fellow Farms lunch and the horses and they had a blast! |
