i agree its about time a message be send out to our people if you misbehave thats it and we don't care this one reason why we have a problem now in violence with young people. we need to put our foot down say enough with the foolishness. This country don't just belong's to you'll who is in agreement with this poster. The Bahamas is for every Bahamian & all Bahamians should have access to all the public beaches. I don't agree with anyone who wishes to see Bahamians denied access to any beach in this country.Should only Foreigners have access to our beaches? crazy stupid people.

Public Holiday. Cabbage Beach Closed to Bahamians. Chain across the public access. Pylons preventing people from parking. At the beach access there is a new sign saying that the owner of the beach access has the right to restrict access. There is an umbrella for the 3 security guards, the two police cars, the three policemen and a guy in a suit with a radio.
The sign says that people use the access at the pleasure of the owner, and the pleasure of the owner is enforced by the security guards.
This is how Bahamians gave away their patrimony.
I hear ya, but a lot of us have cause this on ourself. If you see what is taking place at those beaches each day with a lot of those people you would close off yours too. I donot have a problem with it. I see it and they need to go some place else to so call beach.:bouncy:

If you do not know how to respect what you have you do not deserve it. Bahamians Are paying the price for allowing our country to come to this. We are held captive by a very small portion of our scociety which we by inaction have allowed to bring our whole country down. It is time to stand up to the thugs, turn them in, put them away. We are ALL suffering because WE are protecting these scum. So be it, we deserve to loose our access!

actually, your statement in only partially factual......we are held captive by TWO small portions of our society........those of whom you write above and those with the economic power that are able to do of what we write now....

when those people in Blue Hill Heights tried to "define" their area by blocking the access to the govt subdivision everyone and their cousin got upset.....because The Govt went and created a subdivision without public acces....

so don't give me that "we caused it on ourselves" speech.....I'd buy that when we start having curfews cause the issues aren't confined to the beaches.......waaaaaay more stuff happens elsewhere......

The beach apparently was not closed but there were police everywhere asking to look in peoples bags - no glass was allowed on the beach either.
You also had to pay to park...

They started this years ago - when they added the restrictions to boaters going to Cabbage.

Bahamians are constantly being relegated to the spots that not only our politicians, our investors, but some of the members of the public seem to think is what we should accept.

The issue of people behaving badly needs to be addressed for sure but to stop access is not the answer. That sounds like the argument some of the Clifton Cay supporters tried on us, that the beach was littered so we couldn't look after it so we shouldn't have it.

I agree that we do need to be considerate and respectful of each others space ( and that includes the noise you make ) which is something that needs addressing. And yes the violence needs to stop! But to say that people should not have access to what is some peoples only connection with nature is ludicrous.

Look at Nassau, we are actively constructing an inner city. Is it any wonder why we are so frustrated? The beach access routes (which have by law been on our maps for years) have over time been quietly taken over - how that is so is beyond me.

I was speaking to a gov official from Barbados the other day who said there would be riots if their government tried to stop them from coming on the beach.

And yet there has been barely a peep when Adelaide's beach was put on the chopping block for yet another investor who will spend a few weeks out of the year here.

Yep it does and WE allow it! If the COMMUNITY did not put up with the "foolishness" it would not be there. We as a COMMUNITY need to say enough and help the police. We need to take back our island. If we don't we have no one but ourselves to blame!

you missed my point......but educate me.....who is it we are to take our country back from?....the ones holding us hostage with the metal guns (weapons) or the ones holding us hostage with the paper guns (green backs)?

Don't be an AZZ! If persons are on those beaches committing crimes then arrest and prosecute them. Don't say everyone with the same nationality of the trouble makers should be banned! That is facist, racist, nazi thinking! Are you Hitler.
Problem areas can be cleaned up. It has been done before:
Rudy Guliani cleaned up NY. He didn't do it by banning all New Yorkers. He did it by dealing with the trouble makers!
The Fish Fry used to be an extremely dangerous place to be. Police cleaned it up by putting a station there and restrictions like a no bottle rule! they didn't clean it up by banning bahamians!
The tracks used to be a violent place! Bahamians cleaned it up by organizing it properly. They did not do it by banning all bahamians!
Free your mind!

You sure is ask for plenny! BOL

You mentioned NYC, what cleaned up NYC was Guiliani's zero tolerance for quality of life issues. Having lived there through his administrations, it was tough going at first, but the results far outweighed the initial discomfort.

his policy was simple; empower ppl by making them value their personal lives and experiences. That meant, if music was playing loud after 11pm on a week night, the police knocked on your door. No more public drinking; no exposed or open alcohol beverages on the streets, subways, buses, etc. Cars with loud sound systems, ticketed and impounded if the owner didnt take care of it. Got parking tickets? you get ya car towed. Walk your dog and forget to pick up the poops? Ya get a ticket and perhaps a bench warrant if ya dont pay ya fine or appear in court.

festivals and Carnivals; no DRINKING and HEAVY POLICE PRESENCE TO ENFORCE IT!

I could go on. NYers really didnt like it at the time, but by the time his second term came around, you could see the difference in the city.

I think that is what is needed in the Bahamas; a STRICT stand on QUALITY OF LIFE ISSUES. Once you get people to change they come to appreciate it.
