though....Sol needs to build a toilet for Bahamians...Why...so we don't piss and shizz next to his/ah tourists dem.

CENTRAL GOVERNMENT ought to be working in tandem with local government councils throughout the country to make sure that major beaches have a public bathroom in place for bahamians to use. not sol kerzner!

I think that is what we need. The police (sans the AK's) should be patrolling the beaches on the holidays. Not cruising by with their windows screwed up and AC blasting, walking the beach. Isnt that why they developed the bike squad? They need to attack "quality of life issues" then we will see a dent in Anti-social behaviour.

Point well taken. What else could have been done? in time for the labour day holiday that is?
Songbird, Kerzner issue has nothing to do with good decent Bahamians who want to enjoy the beach...He needs to deal with it...

He knew Bahamians were coming to the Beach...the politician knew the Bahamians were coming...yet Kerzner decides to ban black Bahamians access...we need to call a spade a spade...

disclaimer...not saying that the beach is actually being blocked by Kerzner, but if it is... kindly apply said statement.

Many of you are missing the distinction. The beach is not closed. Private property extends to the high water line of the beach and upward. What has happened is that the private owner of the property that was being used as the access (and it might not even be Kerzner) has decided to stop people from accessing his property. This is something that is absolutely the right of the property owner. If you can get to the beach without trespass, and stay below the high water line, you are fine. The issue that is being missed is the question if there is a public access to the beach, or is it all private property. This issue is one for the government to address, not private property owners.

I hear you , but as a corporate citizen I think it is apart of his responsibilities. Government needs to make sure these things are built in the contract when these companies are purchasing land and property. It is part of the price they pay, but look at what they get in return.

linc, like i say if a tourist wants to travel 1000 miles to the bahamas, spend thousands of dollars in the hotels, restaurants, cabbies, and wanna get drunk, high and get naked on the beach, have sex with locals and suffer a hangover the next day then allow them to. i dont care. theyre spending the money but they gotta realize that there are consequences with their actions.
What about the Bahamians who pay thousands of dollars in taxes every year to enjoy what is rightfully ours!
Bahamians also spend thousands of dollars on hotels, restaurants, cabbies!
Bahamians alos wanna get drunk, high, and get naked on the beach, have sex, with locals and suffer a hangover the next day! then we should allow them to also they are also spending thier money here, not once or twice in a lifetime like most tourist but every day.
It is estimated that Bahamians spend more than a billion dollars every year in florida. We get about 5 million tourist who spend about $60. That is only 300million. Numbers might be off but I am trying to show you that we have value. we need to learn to love ourselves first. then we can love the foreigners!

lawyer canesfins...see my easement theory...

However, it must be made public as to whom hired the security officers, and who is claiming to own the access. Such things needs to be made public. There are two access to cabbage beach...I wonder if both are closed. and if both are closed forever...what is that saying about the beach...point blank that the beach is closed for ever, unless Bahamians owns hellicopters.

two different issues here...
if gubment them want privatize the beaches them, then do it, don't threaten us with it...but until then, the beaches are public...that being said...we have a right to be on the beach...if there is an issue with policing the beach, then hire guards to monitor them and enforce the law...don't blame the public for government flaws...In the US they have beach wardens...Bahamians needs jobs...i am sure a few of them wouldn't mind being a beach warden...

Minister Earl Deveaux a few month ago was on tv saying that all public beaches and acess would be identified and clearly marked.guess this incident will expediate that.

lol beach wardens? not a bad idea.........like a outpost of the police force. and they could wear khaki shorts with red stripe........oooh no that would clash lol........anyway that's not a bad idea at all. so is anyone going to say anything to Mr. Kerzner?

Thx Canesfins!

I was asking the private property question as Kerzner bought Cabbage Beach fro the Robinsons and it extended all the way around the coast of PI to the RIU!

Maybe he agreed to use this portion as public access as a token to Bahmians and now we have proven that we carn behave!

See this could be a begining of a good thread..."Tourism aint worth it" or...Bahamians getting jib regarding tourism exchange"...Bahamians need to know their worth and have their government fight for their rights...If americans were being violated in ANY country...the American Embassy would be jumping and threatening the world...but in the Bahamas, they does tell their citizens to take it easy.
