View Full Version : There'll be no complaints from me about the price of food in Nassau!!
bahamiangoddess 06-07-08, - 03:02 PM You lie! BTW, why are Bahamians still going to the UK to study law? Why not Canada, or the US, or UWI even. They are all common law jurisdictions... and then there is the LLB programme at COB. What gives?
U.K You can complete a LLB and Bar School in 3 yrs. Throw in a LLM 4 years.
U.W.I - LLB 3 years - Bar 2 years - Total of (5) YEARS.
Das why!
songbird 06-07-08, - 03:18 PM my take is they probably feel as thou if you dont get there you are just not a lawyer, she is a brillant child and i dont mind investing in her but as i told her mom the returns will still be the same if she did the course here.plus i think london has changed her for what i dont no right now but everytime she comes back she seems to be shifting , perhaps i am getting old but her values have changed the school london you take your pick.

Well my dad wanted me to come here to be exposed and to meet peopel i've never met before. i share a flat with an Italian, a guy from the Czech Republic, a Canadian, an English girl, and a girl from Latvia.
I got accepted to UWI on the government scholarship (in fact, UWI was my first choice, as i wanted to go back to Eugene Dupuch to do the bar anyway, you could only take so much of this country ya know) but i got another one that enabled me to come here.
Needless to say, the exposure to different cultures, languages and customs is invaluable. Plus, since im here, i have a variety of networking oppurtunities, and resources.

Really?! Hmmm...sounds like a scam to me...mass production of Lawyers in the UK. where were the best lawyers here trained, like J. henry, Orthland Bodie, Munroe, Gomez, Fred Smith, etc.?
sapadilly 06-07-08, - 05:33 PM Facts. et al: YOU CAN NOT DO THE CONVERSION!!!!!!! NO WAY, YOU WOULDNT SPEND A CENT.
You have to convert to £ right away or das ya ***.
On a conversion basis it is really expensive, but I find food here to be reasonable if you spending pounds. Everyday stuff that you van live on is about £5 (eggs, bread, milk, etc)
I am in London, and what is really expensive is rent. When I compare what I pay for my room in a flat, it is almost as much as I paid from my one bedroom apartment in Manhattan (pre-war, so it was huge).
Btwn rent and transport in London, das what kills me.

I'm glad you said that about not doing conversions Sap. When I first came to the Bahamas the pound was on a par with the dollar i.e. 1 dollar equaled one pound. I nearly died at how expensive everything was over here. Even now with the dollar being 2 for 1 against the pound some things are still a lot more expensive here than over there.
