View Full Version : There'll be no complaints from me about the price of food in Nassau!!
FACTS ONLY 06-07-08, - 12:33 PM At least for a while.:)
I'm in the UK right now and the price of food and necessities are outflippinrageous and thats before the exchange rate!!
Toothpaste, a small one, 2pounds!! Thats $4 bucks!! 4 bucks!! FOR A SMALL ONE.
Eating out!! Burger and fries, fish and chips etc, 7pounds!! Thats $14 for ME!!
I feel for Bahamian students here as they must have to bring food with them.
Its been a long time since I came here in May/June. The sun goes down around 9.30pm to after 10pm.:jawdroop::jawdroop: Because I keep my watch on our time. I doon know whether I should be asleep half the time or up!!
Terminal 5 in London cost 4.5 Billion to build yet it is a disaster. I was NOT impressed. Our lil airport after it is finished will be much more pleasant and functional though way smaller.
Sorry Sap and Lincoln. I know I promised to phone when I get to England but I had not planned this trip. Unfortununate circumstances did. I feel fa yall with the high prices though.
Even Guiness is expensive here in Ireland.:footmouth
I ga have to keep my complaining moot shut for a good couple weeks when i get back home.

Alien 06-07-08, - 01:24 PM The poor ones come here, because we think that every white person, is from money. Was talking to a aunt of mine and she has a boss who has been working for an insurance firm before the switched hands to black ownership, and he has been promoted and made MILLIONS in this country--right here, under one of those big black families. He, as she said, came here 'rank like fish' and now has a place out west..... We seem to think that every white man/woman, would be better than any black man/woman.
Still, for me, I would rather be THERE now, than HERE now. With the higher prices in all, dirt and grime racism and everything, it would be a clear choice. At least with THERE, I would have more opportunities, than I would have HERE and have a chance to make it, from bottom up and not need a near miracle, to eat and survive from day to day. That's just the truth. Not a joke and not even up for debate.
It is apparent that making money and a comfortable living in the Bahamas- we aren't even talking about the yuppies who fakin it- we are talking about the people with a net credit of over 50k, is only for a few- even when you have an idea, someone steals it from you and cuts your throat. Sometimes even in death. Talk about the Bahamas Development Bank and some of the board members on some of these firms. This town is absolutely disgusting at many levels. Nothing is transparent and nothing is given, unless your pound of flesh is extorted for the penny.
As dirty and dingy it can get in Miami, NY, UK, France, DC or NE, I would say to anyone, who wants to REALLY work for their money and be happy with the solid work that they do----simply go and stay gone! Law isn't even as lucrative as it once was in the Bahamas, as we have had lawyers who are all out stealing from their clients.....this is true. We simply have too much of them. And, on the other end, we have too many dunderheads in the financial services, because kisses go by favours---we have put the deth knell in that industry, before PM Ingraham sung the last rites in the early 2000's.
To be blunt, the industry won't grow, once we have dunderheads, getting positions, they never compteted for and they have no business getting in the first place. One or two make a mint; Tony Fergusson, James Smith and Ken Kerr...but, kisses go by favours and I have no fault with them, once given a leg up, to take it and run with it. But, the rest of us need relief and an opportunity in this country, too......F.UCK. What country do we have now!?!?!
Sad...we have such a beautiful country. I guess I had to see it in real time, depression of the economy, politricks and the pervasively corrupt social caste that keeps it together, again, up front and in the face. He who feels it and see's it and understands it, knows@
Since I have been here, I had TWO job offers....TWO...one paying 80k+ and another, was not as much, but had a real international career path for me. Both in the financial services. Got through two major interviews....the last one even assured me that I was a "lock"....right to the end. The first said they had to restructure and the second one, said the same thing after they promised me a position.
The first one, they had foreigner, working part time as a consultant in the position 'we' [me, HR and Management] had begun to talk about. He had been brought back, because the position could not have been filled by a Bahamian; supposedly. In fact, he wants to leave this country (to be fair, I had one more interview to make, but, after I met with the first Bahamian manager, that fizzled out)...he [the consultant] comes in when they need him to and not all the time, he makes it. He makes the same thing or more 80k plus. But, can make more as he is, roving.
With the second one, considering the profile of the position, I knew someone undercut me. By the way they handled me, I know for a fact that I was undercut by a crony who snuck in the back door. In fact, I saw an advertisement in the paper, for the same criteria I applied for, and under a different job title-- this is after they had told me that my CV, was the overwhelming clear choice for the former position! Fact is, I did some undercover and know I was undercut as the 'position' they advertised, was already filled. I applied to the position they had posted anyways, with my work samples to boot---just to let them know, if its a crony, and if he fails, like all cronies do [feck up] your office will suffer for it and I know it will and if it would play on your conscience, I hope it does. Hope that it does not and with considering the work, we only can want and expect for good work, but, these folks don't really care---they will work around the crony, because they have to to get by. Look, they even have me hoping that they fail....dear God! See how they does make decent people, wish for bad things!?!?
Talk about a kick in the nuts. I am seeing the handwriting on the walll. BIG TIME. If you een a politician sweetie or chick/child, better you, if you have the chance, to get out and stay out...until you are secured. This country, with all of the bounty within, is not for you if you are not morally bankrupt or puppett like in your attitude.

British American is expanding; they have been bragging about net income and profits, etc., increasing by over 20%. It is who you know. Folk here have been saying this long time but no one cares until it touches them personally. This is why I believe that we need CSME, EPA, WTO etc., to open up this economy. When there is competition you have to have the best available to even stay in the game.

You lie! BTW, why are Bahamians still going to the UK to study law? Why not Canada, or the US, or UWI even. They are all common law jurisdictions... and then there is the LLB programme at COB. What gives?
Warwick 06-07-08, - 02:04 PM ...yeah anything related to pounds is overly expensive... but it'll get a bit worse before it gets any better. Within the next two weeks expect for the GBP/USD pair to reach ~ 1.99-2.04 unless the US treasury or fed takes some action which is highly doubted but possible. But I wudnt fret much as the dollar will rebound in the fourth quarter so prices should ease a bit, or rather ur purchasing power will increase.
But until den - cant go wrong wit that kraft

my take is they probably feel as thou if you dont get there you are just not a lawyer, she is a brillant child and i dont mind investing in her but as i told her mom the returns will still be the same if she did the course here.plus i think london has changed her for what i dont no right now but everytime she comes back she seems to be shifting , perhaps i am getting old but her values have changed the school london you take your pick.

I'm sick of that "its who you know"....sent to BA. Don't know who to follow up there. And, yes, if anything, I believe that the WTO would force domestic industry hands-but, it may also insultate the same folks who we want to put feet to the fire, further into the mechanisms mucking things up.
Also, WTO, EPA, CSME...has to be done, right. You can't negotiate without sound data and information. Also, you can't put some folks under the bus---as they did for construction, and left it wide open for foreign competition and did the opposite, with real etsate. Real estate, and the inflation of realty in this country, is a prime problem for Bahamians getting proper equity in this country. With construction, those same ghetto boys, look for that masonry, plumbing or electrical job---if they don't or can't get that, what do you want them to do? Rob the folks over in Lyford Cay and the Eastern Road, of course.
They can't rob us, we een gat nuttin to take! Yinna neva give us nuttin and the little we gat, we payin high food and energy bills!
