As a marine service company, we have to apply to Bahamas Maritime Authority in London, for Bahamas marine licences for our Canadian crews, who sail on Bahamas registered vessels. The services is excellent and licences normally are granted within 48 hours after receiving the application.
My thoughts are, if the BMA headquarters were in Nassau, would the service be the same standard, considering the waiting times for passports, driving licences, immigration documents, etc.?

The bahamain way of doing things is quit differant from set world standards . Captains of sailing vessels know they need prior approval for some shipping needs such as changing or brining in new personnell, they have a standard form that is used and once the forms are in order the matter is delt with in a timely manner customs /immigration and the port work hand in hand to insure speedy turn overs. Shipping matters or most of them are delt with by the simple fax machine . however the part you mentioned about the licences and passports, some of our folks wait until they are about to travel then they speed down to the passport office and want it processed there and then , same thing goes for drivers licence they wait until the end of the month to do things
