Apparently there is a tomato shortage this week...All tomatoes imported from Flordia MAY been contaminated. Restaurants are asked to not serve these foreign tomatoes until further notice...But what I wan know is...why we need to import frigging tomatoes in the first instance...sux teeth...I thought we could grow ah own 'matoes in abundance. I had to eat my BLT without the T last night...it was just a BL...it just wasn't the same.

Erry one wan be banker and lawyer, not tomatoe farmer?

I know that Brent Symonette's son (I think its his son) has a hydroponics farm and supplies great grape tomatoes to Freeport (or use to). And don't they have that farm in Nassau?

These people selling at the "farmers" markets need to be selling real Bahamian produced items instead of stuff they buy from the warehouse. I would definately patronize home grown.

all over the wall street journal this morning, although no specific reference to florida as the source of the problem:

McDonald's and other restaurant chains are pulling certain tomatoes from their menus until they learn the source of a recent spate of salmonella cases. McDonald's said it has stopped serving sliced tomatoes on all of its sandwiches in the U.S. Nearly 150 cases of a type of salmonella have been reported around the country since April, including at least 23 hospitalizations, according to the Food and Drug Administration. The illnesses have been linked to certain kinds of uncooked tomatoes, but the source of those tomatoes hasn't yet been identified.

MORAL OF THE STORY? ONLY EAT ELEUTHERA TOMATOES ;-)!
