Dang, there's a waiting list already. Ok, I'll call... and I think that limes are a hot item.. understand that people are ordering lime them by the 100s, and they go for $6.00 each.... good luck...

This is a very personal Ministry for me, and I will withhold judgment of any plan until released. I just hope that it is more than providing seeds and trees for sale, it doesn't take 1.5 years to decide its a good idea to sell seeds.

One of the most unsung Ministers in the FNM administration is the Honourable Larry Cartwright, MP Long Island and the Minister for Agriculture and Marine Resources.
Since assuming the post as the Minister responsible for feeding ourselves, this minister has been BUSY, and I mean busy out of the light of the press and busy working hard...
For the information of those who may not know, this minister has been addressing the needs of farmers and thus in the process is prepared to state to the public that before the end of the FNM administration in this term, this country will be able to support itself in many areas of food supply.
FOr example, seeds and fruit bearing trees like limes, pears etc are now available to Bahamians for purchase.
Bahamians can go the the ministry of agr and purchase these plants and plant in their yards and thus in the next few years most of these products will be available in large supply in this country..
I urge those of us who are interested to call the ministry of agriculture and get more information, purchase a plant and plant it for yourself in your yard.
YOu will be impressed at the plans that the Honourable Minister has done and will be doing to ensure that Bahamians are able to feed we self.
God Bless the Honourable Minister...

If the PLP and FNM were not so deep in the pockets of the food merchants [food importers] who wants to continue buying foriegn products, we could have been supporting our selves a long time ago in feeding this nation.

Now that the world econamy is in ****s with all these poision tomatoes ect. we now trying to fix this feeding problem over a 5 year period thats not gona work. What if Mr Cartwright kick the bucket today, is there a blue print in place for the next 1 to follow?

That is all good, But i want to know what if the minister kicks the bucket. what will happen to his plan. My thread was posted as constructive critism.
If you want to get offended that is your biz. I want an answer to the question.

I think this "urban gardening" is a good initative all around - I hope lots of people make use of it.

side comment: Geez even seeds are political? Are we are suffering from a server case of political myopia, which is stifling the growth of our country?

The Bahamas was once self sufficient but then we where told that we would no longer be the hewers of wood. We went and got big time, sold our souls to the drug runners and forgot how to lead a decent life. Now we are going to have to learn how to look after ourselves once again, the lessons our old heads should have given us are mostly gone as we lost a generation or two since we where told that we where to good to work. There was once a time when almost every yard had its fruit trees, a rain water tank, and a FAMILY that would tend it. I truly hope that time comes again. Cheers to Larry Cartwright and to the Bahamians that understand his vision.

We dont get enough rain to make it a viable option.

Depends how big the tank is. I use my tank about nine months a year.l

We dont get enough rain to make it a viable option.Canesfins, you familar with rainbow bay eleuthera right ?...

Well, just did the same thing under a two-storey dwelling home... on the water front.... rain water never done... yes there is city water supply but the rain water is what is used most often and it never lets us down as for now...

but other then the fact that you do not see it as a good option other then due to lack of rain ......
