We dont get enough rain to make it a viable option.

WRONG! My brothers house was built in the 50's and he has a rain water tank that takes care of ALL of his familys needs. It only makes sense and the water is SO much nicer than city or well water. It is an added expense but a "smart" expense. It should be law that ALL new houses have a rainwater tank!

As I understand it, used to be, way back when. In those days contractors obeyed the building laws - water tank, and shutters. :)

.. YOU must be realated to Minister cartwright.. he talks so much about how important it is for Bahamians to build their houses on rain water tanks....

Watsayu, I grew up in a family that used to garden every Saturday. Grands, Aunts, Uncles, Kids. We would all get together in the yard of the week and make a day of it. Many hands make light work and it was a great way to get the family together.

Yep, that thinking was thought to be wrong for a while. Funny how the old heads always know better. Time to go back to our roots and realise what is REALLY important, if it is not to late.

Right here in Nassau, I still have a little spot in the yard for my veggie's. Got all the fruit trees too. I am one that beleives grass in the yard is wasteful, what you need it for?

The Bahamas was once self sufficient but then we where told that we would no longer be the hewers of wood. We went and got big time, sold our souls to the drug runners and forgot how to lead a decent life. Now we are going to have to learn how to look after ourselves once again, the lessons our old heads should have given us are mostly gone as we lost a generation or two since we where told that we where to good to work. There was once a time when almost every yard had its fruit trees, a rain water tank, and a FAMILY that would tend it. I truly hope that time comes again. Cheers to Larry Cartwright and to the Bahamians that understand his vision.

A small garden done right is well within your reach. Fruit trees as well!

.. and I think that limes are a hot item.. understand that people are ordering lime them by the 100s, and they go for $6.00 each.... good luck...

Dang again! Cause I love limes. In fact, that's the first seed I want.

CG, this is a dumb question, but how do you know that you're using your rainwater tank, instead of city water? How much does a tank cost? And on average, how much do you spend on water w/ the gov't?
