Peaceful, I hear your heart. I know there is truth to your post. Let me encourage you to live up to your name ... Peaceful!!!
There's a lot of frustration in Abaco about the illegal immigrant situation; especially, the large school population and it MUST be addressed... or, I fear, only much worst news is to come..... let's not downplay the seriousness of this post!:hammer::hammer::hammer:

lynette 06-10-08, - 10:43 AM Well, I'll answer the questions for Proud because here on BI we had a big argument (as usual) about the immigration situation when Shane was Minister.
But before I do that, let me preface my statements with this:
The problem with many things in this country of ours is the underlying politics involved. When action is taken (or not taken) the matter at hand quickly becomes political in the eye of the public and we forget what we were initially talking about - in this instance, illegal immigration and its social aftereffects. We prefer to derail the argument with party politics, accusations of corruption or claims of incompetence.
Regarding illegal immigration in this nation it appears that anytime someone dares to speak out against it, they are bound to end up losing the truth of their point on having to defend themselves from those who automatically and reflexively will say that the person making the point "must not like haitians". Truth is truth and it seems that some of us would like to sweep "truth" under the rug when it comes to SOME persons who hail from that island in the south. Mind you, a generalization is a generalization, but even when all parameters DO meet a preconceived perception, we still choose to ignore fact merely for the sake of being politically correct.
Bahamians used to be confident enough to "mash corns" (regardless of whose "corns" they were), but when it comes to illegal immigrants, we (within a generation or two) have allowed societal pressures to stop us from speaking the truth outright.
Anyway...
Songbird, the matter that Proud is talking about is when Shane Gibson was authorizing the rounding up of illegal immigrants "left and right" and "day and night". It actually seemed like he was onto a good thing and then suddenly there was that one "raid" where most of the persons rounded up turned out to be legal. There was an instant and overwhelming public outcry that the exercises were not humanitarian enough and they even stopped using the term "raid" because of this occurrence.
I'm not sure as to exact timing (before or after) but there also was that situation when there was a fire in the Mudd and some of the illegal residents fought against the firefighters who were trying to get the blaze under control. Shane Gibson and Melanie Griffin went over to the Mudd to investigate and one resident got on national television talking about "he woulda kill somebody". After that, the immigration exercises all but dried up and there was talk of putting roads and street lights within the illegal squatting grounds called the Mudd and Pigeon Pea. Even those plans didn't pan out though.
So to be correct, it wasn't the opposition at that time that stopped Shane Gibson from authorizing steady and continuous immigration exercises, it was the prevailing public sentiment as no one wanted collectively to be labeled xenophobic or racist. Also, with an election coming up in short order, pissing off Bahamians of Haitian descent didn't seem too wise either. At present, in some circles in this country it is considered utterly bad manners to speak openly about sending illegals back to Haiti, regardless of how they got here or how their presence will affect this society in the long run.
The social stigma associated with wanting the law to be carried out in regards to illegal immigration is growing daily with the help of terms like "xenophobia" and "racism" - terms which are quickly brandished in conversations to quell and or divert any argument regarding that topic.
So true so true...I feeling real bad nah cause I seriously feel like I need to block some people round here who continously get so very political and then resort to name calling without addressing the issue being discussed, it makes the thread hard to read and just gets on my nerves....

Quotation
'Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so
that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other
people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.'
The chile seems to have lost his marbles, but then again, you would actually have to have had marbles to lost them in the first place. So carry on olde chap!:)

i won't even dignify his response that with an answer!
Why should we be scared? Why do we have to fear our own people when we speak against Haitians? This is the Bahamas, and we should stand together against things that are not in our best interest. Roker tried to tell us years ago, warning us that the Haitians were coming. He was silenced. Now here we are, in a time where even the government is scared of the haitians. Police will not be dispatched to Middle Street in Nassau because the Haitian Mafia there is so well armed. 'no point n gettin our boys killed'... Them Haitians always geared for killing, Cowpen road... they findin someone dead there nearly every week.
I walked up behind a haitian that was in my yard for an unknown reason at the time(was lookin for a job) and said "hey".... he whipped round and had his cutlass over his head waitin to chap me! He wasnt ga get no job, I refuse to hire them, dey seem to have their own union, so many get paid more than bahamians... I'm sick of it...
Call me racist n the rest, I dun care, I kno that my passport having the Bahamian Crest means this is my country. I shouldnt have to be scared to go out in the night cause these legals, illegals or watever are not attuned to our ways. WE AS BAHAMIANS SHOULD NOT BEND TO THEM! They should be removed, by force if required. THey dont pay taxes, grow their own food, hell, cause they livin on crown land in the MUDD, they have their own generating plant. and wat gets me, is they wont remove them all, illegals, in illegal houses, they should be all sent back, and that place bulldozed and made into a park for bahamians. They say they would expand the port over there... but until then the haitians living free n clear of us.
AND, damnit why should 2 illegals float on a log from haiti, have a baby here, and that baby be bahamian? Then they wanna be called Haitian-Bahamians... but treated like normal bahamians, even tho by their very choice of name they imply they are better than us... cause they arent Bahamians, they are HAITIAN - Bahamians, even putting their name first. EVERY BAHAMIAN SHOULD TAKE IT AS A SLAP IN THE FACE. THIS ISNT THE USA... HYPHENATED NAMES ARE BULL... either ur Bahamian or u arent. choose a side and work to benifit that side.
DONT give me ne of that.. oh they have it so bad home, we gotta feel sorry for them... WE ARE THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD THAT ALLOWS IMMIGRATION JUSS CAUSE WE FEEL SORRY FOR UHM. They made their country wat it is, by their very nature. Why should a country 350k strong have to support these violent people, coming from a country of 10 million? All that land they got they should be able to completly support themselves.... but like a virus, they multiply and multiply til all natural resources are consumed, destoryin their country insteada cleanin it and workin together to make it better. now they spreadin to the Bahamas to try to destory us.(ty 'The Matrix')
Wanna make a difference? Be like long island people, make uhm so scared they dun wanna be there. THIS IS OUR COUNTRY!!!! We cant be afraid of dem HAITIANS!!!
Wasting our money for government schools, ALL OUR BAHAMIAN MONEY TRAININ HAITIANS PEOPLE... I DUN SEE WHY BAHAMIANS DUN WAKE UP. that goes back to the OP... haitian gangs in bahamian schools beating us up. it has to stop. Why dont we have a Bahamian Day, a day we carry our flags, and stand against the haitians, we have to push them out NOW, time is running out.

newayz! like the candians does say!
The Exotic One 06-10-08, - 12:41 PM I believe THAT's the correct quote.......
it's sad, though, that one has to state this in order to be taken seriously in the defence of one's rights.....
Thankyou for fixing that... This letter brought tears to my eyes.. now as a voting citizen that also supported and still supports this govt as well I will sit back and see what they will do...:bouncy:
watsayu 06-10-08, - 12:42 PM newayz! liek the candians does say!The possible evolutionary function of inferiority
With something so conspicuously negative as inferiority, one wonders how evolution has allowed it to survive. Could it perhaps be serving humankind in some hidden way, thus being fit for survival? I can only think of one such service. To explain, we will turn briefly to the diamond industry ...
Diamonds light up the world with their brilliance. They last forever and, despite their elegant appearance, are harder than rock. But they do not start out that way; initially, they are rough and inconspicuous. Their beauty is hidden. To bring it out, the diamond has to be polished.
Now to polish something you need an abrasive that is at least as hard. And diamonds happen to be the hardest substance on earth. So to polish diamonds, one uses exclusively the very hardest abrasive available; that is, one uses other diamonds. Not those of gem quality; only the inferior ones, which are called "bort".
The bort has grip on the gem as long as it's rough, and polishes it until it is perfectly smooth and the brilliance comes out. Then, the diamond can shine.
Many geniuses undergo great suffering early in life through inferiors in their environment; could it be inferiors are the bort that polishes the rough gem to bring out the brilliance? For a genius may be born with high intelligence and wide associative horizon baked into its DNA, but could the genius ever work up the extreme persistence, willpower, determination, self-discipline and diligence without the unstoppable and perpetual inner drive that comes from the realization: I must be significant, for the extreme torture cannot have been for nothing? After all, one does not throw away a half-polished diamond, nor does one apply the hardest abrasives to a piece of ordinary charcoal. Who undergoes the severest trial is meant to arise purer and achieve the highest; the advance of humankind.
Inferiors, as we all see every day on the news, have the inner drive to destroy all that is good and pure; instinctively, they are therefore drawn toward the genius. And exactly that may be their evolutionary edge. Their evil may just be the only thing dark enough to build up the diamond-hard, unyielding, immovable willpower in the genius required for any feat of significance in the light of evolution.
