I witnessed an incident today that is one of my fears when driving the streets of Nassau. I was travelling past an intersection in Pinewood Gardens when I noticed to bikes heading in the opposite direction.Neither of the riders had on helmets. As I continued along my way the rider in the front threw his bike up.In a split second, I saw the bike and the rider go up in the air. The rider rolled over several times as the bike landed a few feet away from him.His fellow rider who was right behind him immediately came to his assistance. Luckily there was not much traffic on the road because an innocent motorist or pedestrian could have been injured because of one persons desire to play evil knievel on the streets.I am so afraid of this because I remember a few years ago Dr. Myles Munroe's brother was killed on Prince Charles when on of these risks takers attempted the same act.I can't understand for the life of me why so many young men have no consideration for their safety much less their lives. As a driver on these street, one has to always have to have defensive driving skills trying to avoid so many potholes. Even as simple as a pebble or unsettled gravel on the street could be a speeding motor bike riders worst nightmare. Why young men ,why. I have seen so many young guys who have had there leg amputated because of motorbikes. What can be done? The police can not out run them. So what do we as a society do?

I am deathly afraid of those bikes, I saw a man lose control of one of them and smashed head on into a parked vehicle. He almost died and ended up with a lot of steel pins in his legs.

When my brother talked about buying one of them, I promised him faithfully that I would invest $2.00 to purchase a bag of sugar to sweeten his gas tank!

That was the end of that story!

You just try and stay safe, God will take care of them...

True but there needs to be to be(if there is not already) some legislation against things like this. And the law enforced. The police are out every morning in full force waiting to book motorists for running the red light or who's brake lights aren't working.Yet every Sunday the police are aware that lots of these young guys are out on the streets creating havoc. Innocent people can get hurt or even die because of silly actions by a few.i was fortunate that I was on the other side of the road and not in front or behind this individual.

Leave them alone...they will soon die out as a result of doing foolishness.

My late brother rode bikes, mostly in the US, he was knocked down three times on major highways because either the driver wasn't paying attention or he wasn't or he was doing ish....In Dallas they made wearing a helmet optional which got a lot of them wearing helmets, perhaps we need to do that here and see what effect it would have! And guess what once they made it optional, my brother and his bike crew were all suited up and of course the helmet saved his life a number of times even though he ended up with other injuries!

Young men feel like they are never going to taste death. They like to push the limits. Sometimes the odds catch up with them and they die. It is all part of being a young male. That is why we need older men to teach them, to guide them in everything - including risk.

I'm in the market for another right now. In particular a Yammy trail so that I can do more efficient service calls and also have something to move around with on the Family Islands on the cheap.

I've fallen numerous times, broken up myself, and even had a blown tire and ended up in the bush one time. There is nothing like a bike for mobility, but it comes with its risks. A lot of these guys simply haven't paid their "pain bills" yet, so they think they're invincible. All riders are not irresponsible.

I was lucky that I had long time riders calm me down by telling me when I first got mine that it isn't a matter of if you get into an accident on your bike, it's a matter of when. In addition to keeping that in mind, all of the nuances of how to ride in Nassau definitely come with experience. Our drivers don't pay attention at all, so these guys who "pop" down the center lane or in mainstream traffic are taking a huge risk. As they say, who een swerving to avoid the overtaking car in the next lane, ducking the pothole. Who een ducking the pothole, swerving to avoid the person walking in the middle of the road. Who een ducking that person, swerving to avoid the potcake. Who een duckin the potcake, swerving to avoid the big rat/cat running cross the road. Who een ducking the rat, swerving cause they on the phone. Who een on the phone, swerving to flag down their friend who dey een see in a long time or one gal/guy. Who een flagging down their friend/gal/guy, swerving to avoid running into the back of the bus. Who een swerving to avoid the back of the bus, swerving cause they forget they was suppose to turn thru that corner they just about past. Who een swerving cause they almost missed the corner, swerving cause they eating one chicken snack or dinner. Who een eating, swerving cause they getting dressed in the car 'cause they late for work. Who een late for work, swerving cause they daydreaming or preoccupied with bills/sweetheart/other issues. Who een swerving cause "they out of it", swerving cause they car wheels een aligned. Who een swerving cause of their car wheel alignment, swerving cause they drunk. Who een drunk, swerving cause they high. Who een just high, swerving cause they high AND drunk. Who een high and drunk, swerving cause they cant see. Who cant see, swerving cause they they can't drive. And that's just a short list of reasons why motorcyclists on Nassau roads have to have eyes in the back of their head.

Now this might sound a bit irresponsible, but on the note of "eyes in the back of one's head", wearing a helmet sometimes isn't the best option for more experienced riders. One's peripheral vision is limited severely. I wear one as I have had too many close calls and I'm not the best rider in the world...yet, but I know a few peeps who insist on not wearing one. Each to their own. Hopefully these guys can rein each other in and stop doing foolishness on our roads though.

I know not all riders are irresponsible, as I have a few friends who are safe
riders. Still, the police need to do something about the reckless ones.

HOWEVER, they need to ban the loud exhaust mufflers, aka "cumpy", as they serve no purpose other than to be loud and an annoyance. They should prohibit shops from selling them, fine riders for having them, and force them to be removed from motorbikes found with them installed. I think motorbikes should be inspected bi-annually as well, to help enforce the rule.

Sometimes I just wish I could follow them to their homes at night and blow an air horn in their ears, to show them how it feels. I mean my baby can't even sleep sound, because every few minutes, some @$$-clown is driving past on one of them.

Just ban them! Make a law that only the stock mufflers are allowed, unless it is a silencer they are having installed.

Dont some of them just cut the mufflers off!

No. They do that on some scooters, but on motorbikes, they put on different mufflers, that amplify the sound. They don't have the noise baffle in them.

I had the mech at Cycles Unlimited tune my bike to perfection once. I got quite a few compliments too. Strangers on the road at traffic lights even joked with me about how quite it was: "Das electric eh? Man dat bike quiet, eh!"

Within a week, a guy turned into me and clipped the back of my bike as he was gawking at a gal.

Loud bike mufflers are necessary in this town where people don't pay attention. Not overly loud, but loud enough.
