View Full Version : What did they DO??
bahamiangoddess 06-10-08, - 08:41 PM It amazes me to see Members of Parliament especially FORMER MINISTER'S, in the House of Assembly running on about things that needs to be done in their constituency, when they themselves have just finished a 5 year stint as the representative.
They were in the position to fix exactly what they are complaining about and they did nothing.
Obie Wilchcombe is complaining about the Old Gulf Union building that is sitting abandoned in Freeport. The govt was suppose to use the building as an outpatient clinic for the Rand Hospital but nothing happened.
How can Obie Wilchombe as a former Cabinet Minister and a Grand Bahama M.P, complain about the structure not being used when he had five years to say and do something about the building and yet he did nothing.
How can Oswald Ingraham, the former speaker and sitting MP for South Eleuthera say that he will continue to pray and beg for the F.N.M to fix the road in his constitency.
Did the road just fall into disrepair in the last 13 months? What was Oswald Ingraham doing for the past five years? Was the job of the Speaker so demanding that he did not have time for his constituency, yet they voted him back him??
If I was a former member of the Govt and M.P and find myself in opposition, I would not complain so quickly, I think it makes me look bad. It is obvious that I did not do my job.
Just my five Cents!!!
Brown Suga 06-10-08, - 08:43 PM I often wonder this too!
Don't forget Picewell...what di his predecessor(s) do? He always running on with "ish"!
Island Life 06-10-08, - 08:43 PM I agree with you! It is actually a sad commentary on their own stint as Minister. It is dishonest.

Sweety...honestly, if the amount of votes MP's got was dependent on what they did when in power, how many of the people now in power do you think would be where they are??
It's not the MP's fault that they get a free ride...get paid for not doing anything...it's the people who vote for them.

But this goes to show you the mentality of the Bahamian people when it comes to politics, we put political parties before the job that is needed to be done.
You don't have to fix the road, I'll fix my car, you don't have to build power station, I'll buy new appliances. Don't fix the wellfields, I will buy bottled water.
This is what we have allowed to happened, Oswald Ingraham is a prime example.
pkmeow 06-10-08, - 09:00 PM ...and that's exactly what we need to work on. Our mentalities...or nothing will change

Yep, we should look at is as a job interview, who can do the job. I couldn't fix my mouth to say half of the things they say for fear of being shamed. Like why didn't you do what you are not complaining about. What could they possibly say?

You kinda have to get people to even think about asking those questions though. After the kind of service we've gotten from our politicians, I think most Bahamian people don't see politics as being able to solve anything, because few things have been really and truly solved. Like marriage, church and getting an education to many people politics is something we do just because, well...'cause we posed too (and not because it has some intrinsic value)...

I know, sad isn't it. Do you think it will ever change? I watch them especailly the women and at least two of them carry on so bad, they disgust me.

Idk if it will change, but it could. For the people who have the will and desire to ask the tough questions they should. A lot of the people we trust to do the asking, lack the capacity, the will or desire to. Keeping things the way they are is profitable to many...ignorance is not only blissful to the ignorant but to those who can profit from it...:sarcastic
bahamiangoddess 06-11-08, - 11:30 AM V. Alfred Gray asking the Govt to get cable in Acklins and fix the road, build docks for Crooked Island and Acklins.
I wonder why he did not do it. The question of the day is, What did Vergeneas do????

Serious thing!
EbonyApollo 06-11-08, - 12:29 PM I think they just have sour grapes syndrome. They lost, they're unhappy and are just being immature about it. If they were adults and responsible ones too they would help the government to get their plans off the ground as well as propose useful and constructive ones to better the government's plans instead of bein 'backbiters, trapsetters'. If I was the speaker, I'd toss em out on their ear for being a waste of Parliamentary time and space. What was it Tarrus Riley said, 'dem a backbita, trapsetta smilin in my face dont want em in my place or in my space'.

tonymontana 06-11-08, - 12:42 PM I was at the rand a few days ago to visit a employees mother who was in ICU, i looked at that building and wonderd what could be done with it. My suggestion is to remove the charles hayward libary place it in that building.
The government then can expand the rand by utilizing the space that the libary now holds . I think its an excellent idea .
