In the 2007 Manifesto, the FNM made some promises regarding Parks and Open Green Spaces on Page 21.

How do you think the FNM is doing regarding the 14 promises (2 have subpoints, in italics)?

Below is that section of the manifesto typed out to make it easier to comment on (any spelling mistakes are probably mine not the FNM's)

Parks and Open Green Spaces

-Develop a National Heroes Park in the City of Nassau
-Make Arawak Cay and environs a cultural recreational centre
-Implement a planned programme of scheduled maintenance of all public parks, open green spaces, and public beaches throughout the country
-Construct lavatory blocks at all public parks and cause their proper upkeep and maintenance
-Cause suitable garbage receptacles to be placed at appropriate locations and cause the routine, scheduled collection of waste.
-Implement a programme of expansion and upgrade of neighborhood parks, recreational and open green spaces, seaside parks and picnic areas around New Providence including the following:
-The R.M. Bailey High School Track and Field facility
-The redevelopment of the Montagu Foreshore, including necessary restoration and reclamation of the Montagu Beach, and the enhancement of the green area at the Montagu Foreshore.
-Improve access to safe parking and restroom facilities at the Western Esplanade Beach and at Saunders Beach
-Acquire or obtain access to the sea and develop public parking and restroom facilities at South Beach and at Adelaide Beach
-Develop a multi-purpose public park with nature trails and bird watching stations at Big Pond and at the former Garbage Truck Depot on Baillou Hill Road.
-Develop a second multi-purpose public park, active and passive recreational facilities, including nature trails, walking paths, sand-put play areas, tennis and volley ball courts and a baseball field at South New Providence
-Facilitate the expansion of the National Park System by:
-Providing a long term lease of land and marine areas to The Bahamas National Trust (BNT) for a new National Park at Fowl Cay in the Abacos
-Extending a long term lease of additional land adjacent to existing National Parks at Harrold and Wilson Ponds in New Providence and parks in Central Andros and Exumas to facilitate their development and safe accessibility to the public
-Review the plans of the Clifton National Park Authority to ensure that the ruins of slave huts and archeological sites of Lucayan people are stabilized, wetlands restored and park made accessible to the public.
-Collaborate with Local Government Authorities for the development of appropriate open green spaces and parks in Family Island Communities
-Implement a planned programme of scheduled maintenance and upkeep of public cemeteries
-Encourage and facilitate recycling
-Transform the Botanical Gardens into a premier conservation and educational facility

most of these are easy to do...one just need to form a committee and provide them with a budget.

I guess that hasn't been done as yet.

I sincerely hope the FNM will follow through with their promises about parks and open green spaces....every day I go by Barrington square park and the eastern parade....and I feel bad because they so run down.
