View Full Version : Bahamasair
Prosperity1 06-11-08, - 01:47 PM It's the age old question. Bahamasair has a twenty-eight million dollar budget and was told by gov't not to come back for anymore. To put this in context; Gov't has had to spend many millions more than twenty-eight million to keep bahamasair operational. What can be done to make this airline run more efficiently?

If we do not privatize however, we need smaller planes for the smaller destinations.
It makes no sence sending a 50 seater to an island of only what 500 people? You don't do that even if it is once per week.
I do not know of the financial record of Bahamas Airways or the airline right after independence, but did they not use smaller planes for the Family Islands?
bahamiangoddess 06-11-08, - 02:45 PM I look at the amount of international airlines folding up and I wonder the govt waiting on with BAHAMASAIR, the fuel cost must be astronomical!
I think finding a buyer now is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
chancellor 06-11-08, - 02:49 PM Another thing....why don't we make all the Bahamian Airlines National Flag carriers? Why is it just Bahamasair?

No way buddy. People sick and tired of the mess that is Bahamasair.
why don't we make all the Bahamian Airlines National Flag carriers?
Never thought of that before. That's a good idea. Has this ever been brought up to the higher ups?
deserted 06-11-08, - 04:45 PM The first thing Bahamasair can do is not spend money on a 35th Anniversary celebration. Have you heard the radio commercials? Who cares if they have been around 35 years if the service sucks?

I think the budget for Bahamasair is sending a message to management. Reading between the lines, if the government means don't come back for more money and they only get $28,000,000, I think they are telling Bahamasair to cut staff.
They are bloated enough as it is.
Basiclayy I think they are telling Bahamasair to be real administrators of the airline and do the dirty work, instead of letting the government physically get into it.

This is exactly what I thought! I think the gov't is indirectly asking management to cut staff. If you istened to Minister grants speech, he mentioned several U.S. airlines that were downsizing by cutting staff and tightening their financial belts. He said this prior to mentioning the financial allotment for bahamasair. I think they want to cut staff!

They should. Bahamasair is like any other government run thing. It becomes a place to dump workers that can’t get a job in the private sector.
