A policeman accused of raping a teenage girl has been suspended from his duties, pending the completion of the case against him.
Marvin Stubbs, 24, a detective at the Elizabeth Estates Police Station, allegedly had sex with the girl, 15, on June 4. He was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez last week and the matter was transferred to another court for a preliminary inquiry.
But when Stubbs appeared before Magistrate Guillimina Archer to be informed of the hearing date, he was told the file had not arrived at the court yet.
Stubbs was told to return to court on Monday. He is represented by attorney Ramona Farquharson.
Meanwhile, the trial of another officer from the Elizabeth Estates Police Station has been postponed.
Sgt. Troy Lewis, 38, is charged with helping alleged cocaine kingpin Melvin Maycock Sr. escape from a holding cell at the station in February. The escapee's son, Melvin "Lil Mel" Maycock, 24, is also charged in the matter. He allegedly replaced his father in the station's cell. The case was adjourned to September 23 at the request of the prosecution.
Maycock Sr., 42, is the alleged head of a smuggling ring that transported marijuana and cocaine from Colombia and Jamaica into the U.S.
Florida prosecutors requested his extradition in June 2004, but he managed to escape the police dragnet that caught other alleged members of his gang, including his son, Maycock Jr. He is on $100,000 bail in the extradition case, which has been delayed because of a pending constitutional motion that challenges wiretap laws.
Police want to question Maycock Sr. regarding last month's discovery of over 1,000 pounds of marijuana at an apartment on Bougainvillea Avenue, West Bay Street. They also want to interrogate Danella Nixon, 24, who they suspect was staying with him
