Shot cop still in serious condition

Corporal Alexis Roberts, who was shot in broad daylight in front of a Web Shop on Wednesday, remained in serious but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the Princess Margaret Hospital, one day after being hospitalized from a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Chief Superintendent Glenn Miller said that full investigations into the events surrounding the shooting continued yesterday.

Roberts was shot in the abdomen as he got out of his vehicle and headed inside the Fantasy Web Café on Wulff Road on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Some on the scene believed that Roberts was the victim of an armed robbery; however, police initially dismissed that suggestion. It was also suggested that at the time of the shooting, Roberts, who is attached to the Governor General's office, was "moonlighting" on his day off. And it raised the question whether the officer was on official police business.

Police combed the area off Andros and Crooked Island Streets for the shooter who was described as a short dark male wearing a colored shirt and khaki pants.
