One more to add. "When driving the wife's car the "E" on the gas gauge means empty, not enough!" :raw: (I got in trouble for that!) :)

When I was a kid, I went to Boarding School in England. There was a course we all had to take. It was two hours a week, on Monday and Wednesday. The course was called Etiquette! One took the course every semester be it one semester or dozens - there was no way out of it! The course was two hours, but one was "on" all the time. Any breach of manners could result in punishment!

We learned how to handle a knife and fork. Something that as sadly lacking in the world today. I have seen "big shot" people that eat like pigs. We learned how to greet people, how to address them, and how to behave in company. We learned how to respect authority and most important, we learned how to respect other peoples feelings. "The art of good manners is to make other people feel comfortable." At the end of just one term the course turned out perfect gentlemen. (Again, something one does not see that often.) One had to learn how to speak properly. Cussing could result in severe punishment. It was said that the way one speaks shows if that person is a person of "breeding" or just a.......

Here is something that is not held in high esteem these days. We learned our "place" in life, or as they used to say how to behave with "our betters!" A child is not above an adult. An employee is not above, or even equal to his employer. There are people who are of a higher station. One had to know that and act accordingly.

We learned how to interact with people of the opposite sex. Respect was the word of the day. Taking advantage of a woman was the sign of a man with no "breeding" he was a slob. We learned that a gentleman stands up when a lady enters, or leaves, the room (or the dinning table.)

If ever I was to return to teaching I would like to teach a course on Etiquette. As I look at the youth of this country (and others) I see a severe lack of manners. Rude, thoughtless kids grow up to be rude thoughtless adults who teach their children to be rude and thoughtless.

If the kids of this country learned manners, we would see a sharp decline in the trouble we see now. I am convinced of that. The youth have to learn how to respect others and how to conduct themselves as ladies or gentlemen but who is teaching that these days?
