Come on people, we're talking about the EXPATS being transferred. Whatever happened to being concerned about Bahamian professionals filling the jobs that they are qualified to fill, but that the offshore boards prefer to be filled with their own people. I say if you want to continue making money in our country, you should be required to have 98% of the top level jobs held by local professionals. The folks at RBC are probably happy to see them go.
All true what you say but when you see well known, successful, companies (Royal, Barcardi etc.) leaving our shores one must be concerned.
In the Navy we had a saying “When you see the rats leaving a ship, you know it is sinking.” (Not that the mentioned companies are rats! Lol) :) But maybe we are sinking???
I don't think the issue is the expats leaving...our concern is more about the operation moving it's head offices and the impact it will have on operations and staff retention.....

No, our concern should be “why are the “rats” leaving the ship?” Maybe they know something we do not - or something we refuse to see? To use another Navy saying, perhaps we are “holed below the water line” (a hole in the ship’s hull) but we don’t want to admit it!!

Yes...why are they going, why wasn't The Bahamas an attractive option for the head office?!

Because RBC bought the T&T Bank that has a bigger capital and client base, that enabled them to extend their reach farther into the Caribbean. From a numbers perspective, the deal made sense. Furthermore, if the bulk of your business is now to the southwest, wouldn't you expect them to increase their presence in that domain?

The question should be what can be done to make The Bahamas more attractive to markets like insurance and banking that have found greener pastures elsewhere?

Scotia is comtemplating some drastic "moves" ta offset current economic down turn. . .more likely, cancelling making any loans till further noticed!!!!

Gal, that can't be no true! :realmad:

That's the only way the bank is make any money. Suspending loans just doesn't make any sense.
They'd lose business.

Why do you think foreigners come here? Because they like the weather? OK, Maybe a few :) but most do it because it is financially a good thing to do. (Some of my foreign friends are leaving because it is no longer so.)

Why do foreign companies come here? For the same reason. It is/was a good place to make money. It is no longer so. The world has changed and we have not changed with it.:realmad:

No! Bahamians have been screwing themselves! Getting a loan for a Hummer that they don’t really need! The Royal (and other banks) are simply proving a service that there is a demand for. :)

Yes it was....perhaps last year!
I think the cost of doing business in Trinidad is cheaper. Even living expense for the expats will be cheaper, most of who live in Bayroc and L.Cay!

Bye bye good ole pie....:bouncy:
