BAHMIA 06-12-08, - 10:26 AM May I ask what the significance of this move really is? RBC has been here for a long time, there should be people in place to make the transition smooth, no? (Edit - Should I be asking for my loan sooner rather than later?) Consolidating the management of the bank throughout the Caribbean -- moving the head office there. Centralising the control. This will mean job losses in the Bahamas. Brown Suga 06-12-08, - 10:56 AM This does not speak well for bank operations here if it goes the same route as FCIB! This has been the sip sip around the country for a while.. From what I have been told apparently it would be cheaper for the operation to relocate.. Boy this type of move will be a blow for the company.. Just think of the amount of jobs that could be lost as a result.. this is not good especially in these hard economic times..:cutie: islandgyal 06-12-08, - 01:50 PM Expat Canadian bankers working at Royal Bank House on the hill, have been told to expect a move to Trinidad. Am pretty certain that the transition was announced several years back, as part of their overall reorganization plan ... I will look for a link. As I understand it It is only the Royal's administrative offices that are moving - the banks will remain. Yes it was....perhaps last year! I think the cost of doing business in Trinidad is cheaper. Even living expense for the expats will be cheaper, most of who live in Bayroc and L.Cay! Our solution is usually to raise prices!!! licks2 06-12-08, - 02:40 PM Scotia is comtemplating some drastic "moves" ta offset current economic down turn. . .more likely, cancelling making any loans till further noticed!!!!! Whatever happened to being concerned about Bahamian professionals filling the jobs that they are qualified to fill, but that the offshore boards prefer to be filled with their own people. I say if you want to continue making money in our country, you should be required to have 98% of the top level jobs held by local professionals. The folks at RBC are probably happy to see them go. All true what you say but when you see well known, successful, companies (Royal, Barcardi etc.) leaving our shores one must be concerned. In the Navy we had a saying “When you see the rats leaving a ship, you know it is sinking.” (Not that the mentioned companies are rats! Lol) :) But maybe we are sinking??? |
