Drinks, a movie, vacation, the club once in a while...you can't blame people for wanting to deal with their stress...

By doing want, creating more stress. Bahamians who can't afford to eat out, need to stay home, but no they all out there maxing out credit cards, and living high off the hog. This is the time when people need to slow their roles, and fast.

My thing is, with that, and, the increase of over 100%- in some cases- in bank's fee's, would that mean that banks would be facing pressure and be forced into "not" lending? The country does not need that kind of squeeze now, or, we don't need to give banks that type of incentive, again, to force them to cut back and make adjustments.

This is the second time that I've seen this on this forum in two days. Can the banks really be that cash-strapped, that lending halts all together?

I hope not......

I don't think banks are ever in a position, where they can't pay shareholders and make the bills. We simply don't put that much pressure on them in regards to us evading payments, without some sort of debt recovery and we simply as a country, from the government perspective, have not been collecting taxes--by the admission of some folks on tax collection in general in this country-- for them to stop lending all together.

But, if times are difficult, for these very conservative people, you would expect some tightening.

If you want to see if The Bahamas is in a recession, the LAST thing you should look at as evidence is spending habits.

Lending will not halt....person without assets/collateral will not be able to borrow (ya know like them unsecured vacation loans and ting) but persons with signinficant collateral, property with no lien etc can borrow...I suspect a lot of ppl who have equity in their homes will also refinance!

That's the danger. This puts up greater risk. Perhaps it would spur folks, into taking more calulated risk. But, a barrier it is.
