I feel like they should create a new straw market and have a small park within the center. Where ever a tourist sit down, their focus will be in the direction of a shop. The small park should feature a water fall and have a few tables set up.
And where the straw market is now, that should be extra public parking.

Tell me what you guys think please!

hmmm,
we already had a thread on this...
but...we shall maintain a park just like we maintain everything else...
but say positive.

plus does our opinion actually matters regarding this...
they already made up their minds as what they plan to do..
to hell with us.

mosy major cities around the world have gone green or are going . newyork city serves as example along with washington, mexico and russia, we need more green places we just need less nasty ppl, who perhaps might not appreciate the clean green pristine surroundings.
every yr the government has clean up campaigns but the nasty buggers still dump there trash not only in the road but in there own yards.

You are saying that you think they SHOULD have a park... Then you ask how they will maintain one? I am not getting your overall point.

If they plan to revitalize Down Town, those Nasty Straw vendors and their kentucky chicken boxes, homegrown rodents, dirty's greasy bags, haggling the tourist, sell knockoffs, filthy pissy restrooms, fire hazard and everything else they bring with that market will not blend into a cleaner downtown.

Make it a Green space. Once Local Government is introduced, give them the responsibilty of the maintenance of the park. Local Government maintain the parks in Freeport and do a good job.

If the government is serious about changing the overall appearance of Bay Street, they will have to make some unpopular decisions.

Until the late 90's Freeport had a straw market in the heart of downtown. They kept the place shabby with all the undesirables hanging around. The place had a pissy scent and a matching look.

They moved the market and turned the place into a parking lot. The market is now in a cleaner organized location with restroom facilities and running water.

You can't please all the people all the time.

Exactly. That is the reason why major things never got done in the last mandate.....my god you could not act with 90% of the people behind you no on the matter, you also needed the support of the drunkard on the side of the road too....

With such limited downtown space my personal opinion is that there is better use for this land.

I know, public space is an easy carrot to throw to the constituents.

Move "downtown".

Bay Street proper should be a cultural mecca. Museums, art galleries and enterprises that support that should remain.

Move the rest to the side streets off Bay.

Those 100-200 year old historic buildings and shops should be restored. Tour guides dressed up in authentic period costumes should welcome visitors. Horse and carriage rides should be encouraged.

Green space can be found. Bay Should be tree lined and a welcome place for foot traffic. Midnight strolls should be the norm.

Parking garages near by with regular scheduled buses/public transportation can take workers to/from the area.

A grid map needs to be slapped over downtown NP quickly.

like these buggas in parliament care about these things...
they ga knock down everything...
the name "Nassau Straw Market" is historical by itself...however, years gone by people have defamed it. Now there is a latent attack on Historic Down Town Nassau.
