What do you think about this? A caller called into More94 with Bodie early this week, and he said that "there seems to be an evil spirit, cast over this country"....how do you feel about that?

He is not a chronic caller, even though Iv'e heard his voice before. He said on an earlier show, and I don't know why his voice sticks out to me, but he also said; "God is cleaning up this country. When you take advantage of the poor, God fights for them"....

How do you feel about some of his comments? Especially the first one. I thought about it, and I feel the same thing. An evil spirit, cast upon this coutnry, stinking up the air and choking the life out of people.

Well...we have allot of prayers, going out in this town. What will lift this malaise?

Praying is nice...and it does good. But, Bahamians need to get up and do something about their problems. We are always passing the buck to someone else. There's no evil spirit in your child, you never taught him well. The devil didn't take your job, you're just lazy and you never took the time to better yourself.

And then, we expect everyone else to solve our problems. The church gonna give Bishop So-And-So a Mercedes so he could pray away our poverty. MP This-And-That need to figure out how to stop crime...you've been voting for the MP for 15 years and he ain't do anything yet.

You make some great points. But, two things. 1. Your position, has allot to do with the physical, and nothing to do with the spiritual. So, making an assessment on the physical, when the issue is spiritual, would be very difficult and 2. The pervasive spirit, and the rewards, however steeped in warped morality they are, is what we are fighting against.

I was always told, you can see what a man does. But, you never know what he's thinking and what's in his heart. The issue is not with what he buys or does, even though it may be a manifestation of his mindset. But, it is to do with his mentality and the social upbringing, he brings to his community.

There is gets a little tricky. And, with many folks, a lack of a better word- evil spirit- seems to fit this. Until we have a sociologist and political scientist, to give us very credible answers for our issues---not detail what has manifested in the physical. But, solutions on how to turn back the hands of evil.

I believe in the spiritual, by the way. I used to fob it off.....but, they are out there. They have the power to do good and evil. But, we are out of sync in this country. Boutniful blessings are not being divied out to all and all can agree with that. Blaming the men/women, for their physical acts, does not address the issue.

Even moreso, if a man/woman, indulges in wicked behavior, their back stop- parents, church and schools- are supposed to curtail this negative impression. No? So, it goes in all sorts of ways!

slothfullness is a deadly sin. But, some people, have no where to go--so, saying "go up, and get a job" is very simplistic. Some things are out of your control, with that, some things are beyond explanation---

In my opinion their not. I have a deep respect for the spiritual...respect enough not to use it as an excuse for human incompetence, laziness and apathy.

As for the corrupt, greedy and the criminal. I find it hard to believe they are the products of a "pervasive spirit" but more the symptoms of a consciousness of capitalist selfishness and general disrespect that we've embraced, taught and held dearer to us than our prayer books.

You're talking about changing consciousness, and for me that involves action, making a physical effort as a collective body of citizens to change the way we in which we regard our fellow men and holding our leaders accountable to those changes. Until the Bahamian people are ready to do that, little will change...

i believe this because my grand aunt who is a Minister practically said da sameting, God is cleaning the Bahamas and bringing forth some new and stronger warriors who will actually do da job. You see all these things comin to light about the cabinet ministers, da churches, etc, God is tired of ppl praisin Him with 1 hand up and the other down because u cant serve Him 99.9% as she always like to say. If you really sit down and notice all those earth quakes and tsunami happened for a reason, and some ppl did predict da sameting will happen to da bahamas, because it is goin to take someting that drastic to get ppl to wake. All i ga say is, if u aint followin God, u better start following now
