Western Medical Centre (Doctor's Hospital West) is about vacant except for Dr. Graham Cates and small staff. Doubt it is a good location for populated area being NE of the airport on Blake Road.
A hospital on Gladstone Rd would be a more appropriate location for the western areas. And, there is plenty of land out there.
damn that's far...

But that would be for the west, unless you are living west and still think that is far......

[QUOTE=Sunnyjohn;284258]Isn't the PMH building over 100 years old?

QUOTE]
no, it was built in the 1950s and named after Princess Margaret, late sister of Queen Elisabeth.
Margaret's picture is in the hospital lobby, when she dedicated it

put the new main hospital in andros, and renovate PMH into a high-end clinic.

PMH a high-end clinic? not with tax payers $$$
the govt has to serve all the tax payers...

meaning better general services in a more compact space, not necessarily more expensive.

I say ....make each clinic a compresentive medical center and leave PMH for the specialists...most of the things we see in hospital can be dealt with in the clinics if they just had proper staffing and equipment....it would also make them more efficent cause if you live in ana rea all you have to do is go to your local clinic or medical center....also give a few of the larger clinics namely south beach and flamingo gardens a 24hr emergency room...so the work is shared

so, will there be two major government hospitals? Princess Margrette and the other one...or will there just be one...and they will use the old hospital building for something else?

I made that statement assuming that there would be two. I really can't see having NP continue with over 250,000 people and only one hospital.

Yep, two hospitals. We could use the community hospital model with two hospitals in the gorwing area of NP and a series of clinics.

...and 10-30 bed community hospitals (mostly for pediatric and maternity serivces) with helicopter service for airlifts is LONG overdue in Abaco, Eleuthera and N. Andros! :hammer:

Blake Rd. Not all that far for the densly populated Southwest (and growing). The facility already exists and can be exapnded.

Some of the community clinics could be upgraded to urgent care facilities and then once stabilized, patients can be transferred to PMH or the Blake Rd. facility.

Blake Rd. also convenient for airlifted patients from Family Islands. Also better parking can be provided than at PMH.

A&E at PMH is already overwhelmed. I had to wait from 11pm until 9 am the following morning once with my grandmother (brought by ambulance) to see a doctor who was not an emergency room doctor but a friend doing me a favor. She has congestive heart failure and her lungs fill with fluid increasing the risk of infection and she had to wait in the emergency room on a gurney near someone with TB and gangrene (sp?) who smelled like he was rotting.

Also the dialysis unit could be relocated to another facility or community clinic to alleviate the strain on PMH. Not to mention to a more sterile environment.
