There is a crew of work men working on a public building in North Andros. Yesterday they decided to start a fire to burn some of the refuse/old construction materials that they had taken from the building. They know we haven't had any decent rain for weeks and that everywhere is parched dry. Apparently they left the area with the fire burning, the wind picked up and spread the fire. We had to close school yesterday in the middle of exams because of the smoke and the fact that the fire was a basketball's width away from our boundary. One of our teachers who lives next to the school in govt accommodation had to spend the whole evening trying to save his house. When he called the MOW they said they had no trans.

Today the fire has spread all through the bush for miles and is burning completely out of control. We have no fire engine and more buildings could be threatened including all of the island administrative complex, clinic and BTC if the wind changes direction even slightly.

Please pray for rain for North Andros we need to out this fire badly!

Trouble is Crabfest 40 odd miles away down south from us and dem folks down in central does get different weather to us at the best of times. They need to send some of their weather this way.

Do you know I have yet to see a crab on the road in North Andros? That's how dry it is. Usually by this time we would have been out several evenings crabbin but you've gotta drive so far at the moment and wid da price of gas at $5.99 a gallon!

Yes I just found out that it is them, they are too cheap to pay someone to haul that stuff to the landfill.

They have a contract to repair that building from the $100,000.00 Constituency fund.

I wonder if they realize that the entire area is the Government's HUB.

A.U.T.E.C is a long way off, but it would not hurt for the Govt to ask them to standby in the event it gets worse.

I was just talking to a friend who flew in from Nassau today, he was telling me that from the air it looked like the whole of that section of the island was burning. Went down the highway earlier and you could not see across the road the smoke is so dense by the labour office.

If that fire is near the basketball court at N.A.H.S, there is very little you could do but try to protect the school.

The school is definitely directly in the path. The only next thing to do is clear away the bushes between the N.A.H.S and the Admin Office.

That contractor needs to be arrrested and charged with something.

It has actually skirted around the track and when I left school was burning along the southern and eastern ends of the school farm and had spread as far as the main highway burning opposite Campbells and down south to opposite Land Crab. Luckily they have had some bulldozers out to try to clear away from the govt buildings. If it keeps up though, depending on the winds it could end up all the way to the Mastic Point road. It has been 5 years since a fire in this same area, so there is plenty to burn.

O my, I had no idea it went that far!
The owners of the three houses opposite Mother Rolle needs to be on their guard.

I hope that contractor have to pay for the manpower and tractor used to fight that fire.

Well, I don't know how many of you said your prayers for North Andros but we finally had a wonderful storm with plenty of rain today.

The fires had continued to burn since last week and had spread all over the place. As of this morning there were 4 different fires within a 4 mile radius. Hopefully the rain will have been enough to put them out, will have to wait and see what tomorrow brings.

Also hopefully now, the crabs will start walking! I haven't seen me one as yet!
