Shall be is not as definite as will be; therefore one could conclude that it is not in our destiny to reach a state of holiness nor perfection here in our earthly form...why then bother?

why not try? we may not completely be perfect on this earth but even our attempts brings joy to God.

But of course, faith is the first step in any religion. I think that verse assumes that as it is directed to believers.
But don’t those that believe become perfect (at least in the sight of God) because of Christ’s atoning work on the cross?

True. Most religions are based on hearsay. There are little facts. If there were facts, belief would not be necessary. All religions are belief based, that is how they work.

By the way hearsay is only inadmissable in a court of law.:)

If we continue to walk blindly through this life holding onto grand promises for the sake of it and not realize any form of consolation except that which is to come; what is our purpose in the here and now…reaching for the stars with feet planted on the ground sounds a bit futile.

What is the alternative?

Is there such a thing as almost perfect or a little pregnant..you're either perfect or not so where is the joy in un-acomplishments?

How about excepting others for who and what they are without passing personal judgments

That would get one on the track towards being perfect. :)

It is very difficult to try anything beyond our own understanding let alone off this world

Could it be that the Lord our God wish is for non to be judged…not even ourselves, and for the full acceptance even of our own personal faults?
