pharoah 06-15-08, - 06:46 PM I invite anyone who feels that the Haitian immigrants in this country are helpless, or victims of some sort, to visit PMH emergency, and public wards, government primary schools in Carmichael, Elizabeth estates, and Blue Hills areas, Salvation Army on drop off days, and the Mall.
The Bahamas is being taken advantage of, and will continue to be, until we reach one of two destinations: 1) the Bahamas becomes a delapidated country like Haiti, or 2) the government, or citizens of the Bahamas, decide to stand up for what is our birthright, and take action against illegal immigration.
Now the inevitable problem with either of those to scenarios is that violence and turmoil is all, but guaranteed to occur. However, we must look at what we stand to save, and what we stand to lose. If we must act to save our little country, we must do it now. If we must endure violence and the repercussions of erradicating illegal immigration, then let us do it, with interest of having a Bahamas to live in, rather than a little Haiti to run from.
What made me laugh is how the other day I witnessed a Haitian construction worker telling his boss (a Bahamian) that he will not be able to come Cowpen road, or he ga get do in. All this because of a falling out they had. I was like well by damn, these people bold as hell.
After my laughter subsided, a sense of concern grew in me, and my eyes are opening to it more and more each day.
Assuming the Haitian is illegal. There in lies our hypocrisy. An illegal Haitian worker and a Bahamian boss!?!? There in lies our problem;Greed and psychological cruelty. And then again the so call Haitian may be a Bahamian!! What then?
The Point 06-15-08, - 06:48 PM There is no way that this conversation can be balanced.
Look at the topic. Have we ever had a Jamaican, Chinese or Cuban riot?
(oops I forgot that those cubans burnt down a building in the detention center)
But just answer the question: Which one group infringes the most upon Bahamian territory?
There are more Haitians here, without question; but, many, many many others infringe upon our territory: from TOP down..... wake up, smell da cerasee!!!:hammer::hammer:

Thats why you deal with the biggest problem first. If you have a toothache and a broken leg which one you fix first.

Well, if you are government you get in a high priced consultant who examines both problems, then nine months later he give a report that is ignored - they you pretend neither problem ever happened. :)

I recognize the question. But, I'm offering this comment: You and I agree on the fact that the illegal immigrant problem is serious, serious; however, we differ on the attack/strategy!
I'm assuming too that neither of us (u/nor me) is prejudice --- in these matters we must be careful to not incite those who are and/or be perceived as perpetrating it. That's not helpful...
Much of what we are not suffering is the result of too many double standards and ppl are fed up with it... especially the youth!:hammer:

In my post Pharoah, I never said the worker was an illegal Haitian. Actually, most of the construction workers get work permits, making him legal for a certain period of time. I was speaking on his boldness being a Haitian, threatening a Bahamian, in his own country.
Now onto your point of the so called Haitian perhaps being a Bahamian. I don't know about you, but I can pretty much tell a Haitian when I hear them speak. Just as I can tell an Indian, Cuban, American, English, or Asian.

dats like sayin u cud tell who is a haitian just by lookin at dem, and dat not tru, i just found out my friend is a haitian and she doesnt looks and sound nuttin like 1, da only reason i found out was wen we went to her ppls home and she started speakin in creole

Now I try my best not to call a person an @ss when I see one, but you really pushing it. So how do you still know that she is Haitian? By your post above, it's because she started speaking creole. Which is precisely what I said in my post. Muddasick!
I don't think you can tell a Haitian just by looking at them. However, I said I can tell by a person's accent that they are from a certain country. Haitians have a distinct sound. Unlike Asian people, who you can look at and obviously see they are Asian, unless thet are mixed, Haitians look like other Caribbean people. However, they do not sound like them.
If you hear a person speaking some French Creole, perhaps even struggling to speak English, and they are dark skinned, looking like they are from the Caribbean or of African descent, would you think they are from Australia? Man, some of you try so hard to twist what people are saying. Either that or you are just plain slow.
Go sit in a corner, put your thumb in your mouth, and feel stupid. You just made me mad on this fine Father's Day.

Listen here, I never judge a person by their looks, so I don't know why you brought that up in the first place.
But to make it clear as mud for you, because you seemed to let it fly over your head from the break, I'll break it down.
The person you speak of, this friend, was probably born here, or grew up here. Essentially, she is from the Bahamas, but her parents are from Haiti. Do her parents, most likely direct from Haiti, sound like Bahamians? I think you will reply that they don't. Right. That is the heart of my point. Hearing her parents talk, you presumed, with good reason, that they were from Haiti. Or did she really say to you that her parents were from Haiti, before you thought that?
Similarly, I heard the construction worker talk, and I could tell that he was from Haiti, not a Bahamian speaking creole.
Anyway, to avoid brain trauma, let's leave this alone.

If all u say here is true... it's unusual! Haitians do have some distinguishing features... most groups of ppls. do! What's the big deal with that? Chinese look chinese???
Problem is too many of you'll equate the word 'Haitian' with negative, even cuss... Haitians are a group of ppl., like are Bahamians!
truth_hurts12 06-16-08, - 02:38 AM Well said...They are here to stay. We either assimilate them and make them feel wanted and appreciated(The Paper and Haitian/Bahamian) or we will continue to have violent clashes. We must remember that we once were strangers in a strange land. We were brought to this land at the point of a gun and many Haitians at the point of starvation. There is a better way and we must find it.
The Bahamian people are very hypocritical when it comes down to Haitians. We have them work and do menial jobs and then turn around, and blame the government for the amount of illegal Haitians!! We give them reasons to stay and then turn around and blame everyone but ourselves.
Many Haitians are here because of so many corrupt civil servants, who have sold our country down the pike. Until we have the courage to bring those people before the courts, the madness will continue. Bahamians are no better people than Haitians!! We are all God's children. The sooner we realized that, the better it will be for our countries peace and tranquility.
Better said, and so true!
