Complaint against MP withdrawn
By ARTESIA DAVIS, Guardian Senior Reporter, artesia@nasguard.com
An assault complaint made against Independent MP Kenyatta Gibson was withdrawn yesterday.
A woman allegedly made the complaint against the politician on Thursday night but withdrew it the following afternoon.
The woman, who reportedly lives off Prince Charles Drive, went to the Elizabeth Estates police station and alleged that she and Gibson had an argument.
However, details of the incident were still unclear up to press time Friday.
Former PLP senator Paulette Zonicle withdrew a causing harm and death threat case against her husband, Charles, this week.
Zonicle, 47, told Magistrate Carolita Bethel that she and her husband wanted to settle their differences for the sake of their 13-year-old daughter.
Gibson most recently made major headlines last year when he resigned from the Progressive Liberal Party and became an independent representative for the Kennedy constituency.
He also made the news after he was involved in an altercation with then fellow MP Keod Smith in the Cabinet office. He and Smith eventually resigned from their government posts following the incident. And in November 2006, a woman who claimed that Gibson was the father of her 5-year-old son reached a settlement with the MP over child support.
