Headless body found
By ROGAN M. SMITH, Guardian Senior Reporter, rogan@nasguard.com
A badly decomposed headless body was discovered over the weekend, floating in waters off South Beach.
A member of the public made the gruesome discovery Saturday evening, near the South Beach canal.
"Someone went to do some checks of a property and discovered the body," said Police Chief Superintendent, Glen Miller.
A team from the Carmichael Road Detective Unit was dispatched to the area where officers found the remains of a male.
Police do not yet know the identity of the victim.
They were also unable to determine the victim's age due to the body's advanced state of decomposition.
However, he was reportedly fully clad and wearing tennis shoes at the time authorities found him.
Miller confirmed that the victim's head was missing.
"We don't know if (his head falling off) was the result of being in the water for a long period of time and as a result or not," he said.
"The autopsy will be able to tell us more in respect to that. We certainly will commence an intense inquiry."
Miller made an appeal to the public to come forth with information if they know the victim.
"Anyone out there with a missing male relative or friend, who has been missing within a month's period, should come forward to the police," he said.
"Perhaps they can identify him by looking at his clothing. That is the only form of identification that we have so far. We certainly will do further checks of the body to see if there is any other type of identification. We will let the public know that as soon as we find out."
