as many will be aware, there is a large backlog at the Passport office.
One way to alleviate some of the pain (at least for Bahamian citizens) is if foreigners were restricted to certain days of the week, say one or two, rather than the present system where all can come for the five business days of the week.

Bahamians should have first preference - what else after all, is the point of citizenship, if there are no privileges...

I went to have my passport renewed 3 months ago and it took about an hour. There were lots of people in there complaining and carrying on, but the easiest way to get through it is to make an appointment. Also we know that the summer months are the busiest times for the passport office but alot of people wait until there passport has expired to have it renewed when this can be done 3months prior to the expiration date

One way to help the back log would be to enforce the rules and regulations...and most importantly stamp out favoritism.

I've been to the passport office numerous times this year and everytime I go there I see people who know somebody in the office get moved to the front of the line, or to the back rooms, or whose papers get taken care of first.

That is one of the biggest problems....because the workers there end up spending time on 'important' or connected people who don't have to wait in line or follow the rules like everybody else does.

And since they spending time on them, normal people have to sit and stand in that crowded room for hours...

Persons born in the Bahamas to non Bahamians apply for, and are granted Certificates of Identity at the Passport office.

Glad this came up - perhaps there should be a slowing up on the issuance of Certificates of Identity for the reason being that those persons born in the Bahamas to non Bahamians can be issued passports of the country of their parents birth. For example, if your parents are Haitian, you are a Haitian citizen by descent and are entitled to a Haitain passport. There is no need ofr you to get a Certificate of Identity. The Haitian Embassy on Shirley Street will gladly assist you.

no its not foreigners fault - the Passport office sets the rules (and breaks them!)

But a country putting its citizens first goes without saying.
I would expect the Jamaican government to put Jamaicans first in Jamaica.
