does this not serve as an impetus for us to get friendlier with other nations? you know...try to cover our assess? i reckon this aknowledgment is evidence that people are realising: hey! we need to wake up and form some sort of contigency plan.. starting first with trying to deal with the issue of brain drain!
The gov't is aligning itself to China as we speak. Wont' that piss of George W! He'll be forced to provide additional support or risk losing the influence to the Chinese, like the US lost influence over Cuba.
I wouldn't say that China would be any friendlier, perhaps the opposite. They have no time for slackers and small country politicians.
I say the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know.

They need to stop messing with China, and deal with South Korea, Korea has much higher quality products and manufacturing, while china steals most of theirs and what products they do make are inferior. If they're looking for cheaper than Korea, they need to deal at least with Taiwan.
bahmaboy 09-08-05, - 04:56 PM really rory? i was always under the impression that korean make crappy products, especially their cars.
on the china issue. i believe the bahamian gov knows exactly how far to take things when dealing with govs the usa isnt keen on. its kinda like when ur parents told you not to go out side so you just stood at the very edge of the doorway.
Nope, they make high grade electronic products, china and taiwan mostly (not allways) buy the main boards and chips from them then just make the cases and put their names on them. ... in the case of china alot of the time they "try" to copy the korean AND taiwanese products which are called Knockoffs.
Alot of Western Companies (eg. GE) have manufacturing plants in Taiwan and Korea where their products are made, then shipped out to their relative countries where they are badged and distributed from, in some cases they receive the products in parts and put them together in the US, or Europe, though in most cases they are ready to go from the plant. They become more expensive once they have to get their Western Plants to do anything to them, normally cheaper if they are already to go such as OEM products some of the brands use, rebadged with their name.
If Our gov knew how business is conducted in China I doubt they would be doing much business with them regardless of what the US thinks. Sure you can get some good deals but at what cost.
Basically alot of the base hardware is produced in Korea and the Taiwanese and Chinese buy them and program them, either from scratch or using SDKs.
NOTE: Japan makes some of THE highest grade electronics as well. But they dont produce much in our industry, besides the sony chips used in most cameras, and Computar who also makes some great lenses and cameras.
At least this is my experience dealing with manufacturers of video surveillance gear, which includes DVRs, DVR Cards, DVR Boards, Accessories, Cameras, Camera Chips, Lenses, and all the software that goes along with it, etc. From the US, Canada, S Korea, Taiwan, and recently China.
Teniel 09-09-05, - 03:05 AM I agree with Abiskans sentiments. We need to stop viewing America as this country's only great hope and saviour, and start expanding our horizons with other successful and prosperous nations. America will eventually loose its place as this globes only super power, its happening as we speak.
As well we in this country need to grow some back bone, and stop dropping and rolling on every thing the US says concerning this country.
Yep we need to kiss canadas butt a little more than we already do ..
seriously though ... canada produces some great products also, probably not even known by alot of canadians, but sold to the US and Europe .. and i use them myself, over asian & US products. 2 names particularly - Extreme CCTV and Videocomm Tech (wireless video transmitters). Extreme has the best tech support Ive ever come across, and some of the best products also.
Ofcourse untill we get a new industry to support us, the US is the only thing keeping this country together as the majority of Tourists here are from the US ..

This is the crazzy is thread of thought i have seen where are you people at in a cave some where, do you not understand that corporations are transnational organizations that set up shops in countries all over the world, in order to reap maxium profit, whether its in china korea, mexico bolivia or japan. then they apply different labels to the same product and sell it to the public through amazing suggestive selling programs. i once was trying to figure out who made ford trucks you do the math?
a1000 09-09-05, - 09:12 AM I just spent important time correcting the fonts in your post and I don't intend to do it again. Please do not use excessive and unnecessary bright colored or large fonts when you post.
Delroy: I dont know who you are, but i really wonder what makes you think that they were excessive or unnecessary, as a critical thinker and creative person i realized the importance of using a variety of forms in the conveyance of an idea, by this token do you think theoritcal physics or abstract art is unnecessary,...................... it is this box type thinking that impeeds progress. self correction is the best correction...................

It's not a matter of laying down for anyone. Every country needs trading partners - without it economies never grow.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Bahamas does NOT have more brains than the US. Givin the differences in population, the industrial and technological advances that are done there, there is significantly more synaptic nerves firing in America. The Bahamas isn't smart because it has sunshine on most days, it's just geography. We shouldn't fool ourselves in thinking that we are smarter than anyone else - there are dummies and idiots around the globe and they probably outnumber the intellectuals 10 to 1.
Doesn't mean that we should drop our shorts for anyone either, but international relations must be handled better.
