I noticed that too.
It is so sad the government is dis-honouring this man Farrington by not maintaining the park dedicated to him.

What is sad is that nothing is done for the benifit of our own people. People are so visionless, that if something is not connected to a financial cut, nothing is done. How many thousands of Bahamians go through that park? Yet let 10 - 12 tourist send a note to the Ministry of Tourism, and you itill be a big deal on the next episode fo "Kerzner Today"

Only American Tourists does like parks aye?:dgi:

That is why this country is being taken away from us and given to people who value this land, and their own people much more that we value our own.

I have to design it, forget concrete, the park needs wrought iron fencing. You can close the park off in the night to keep out vagrants and suspicious characters. stone pathways. Use hedges to devide the space into smaller private green spaces. Add a water feature, and if not that, a sculpture/s. Hibiscus, bouganvillas, make the park a real urban sanctuary.

The actual city has many hidden space and treasures. If we just stop and walk around to see them you would be amazed. Some needs major restoration, some others need a simple pressure cleaning session.

Man If could I would buy any property in Nassau I could get my hands on, I would even quite titles in this city. I would own this city do the honrable thing with it and reap the profits outright, and all the residents will finally live in developed Bahamian civilization. The gate keepers of the City of Nassau, the owners of some of the most historical and influential properties in this country, have no vision and are totally stupid. What kind of citizen owns a mansion on Kings/Marlborough/Bailou/Streets and lets it rot? These are the very foundation of our national heritage as far as Nassau goes. Do you know how many people would die to live and work in real estate as prime as these?

Chancellor, you eva drive through Chippingham?

My goodness. In San Francisco the younger generation of professionals bought into the Mission district (a poor, mostly hispanic area) and totally revitalized the area.

I would do that. Some of those houses are so nice (if you can look past the decay). That would be a great place for up and comers to buy and renovate. If I knew more people would be into it I would start NOW!!!!

Even some of these ghetto places have nice homes that have deteriorated. If people would just take some pride and we could come together.

It's a good idea Tony....my only reservation is that it is the government's responsibility to do so.
What are taxes like property tax, business license fee, stamp tax, etc for? The government is allotted tax payer money to spend on such things as maintaining this tiny park.

My thinking is someone in the government needs to be held accountable...isn't there be a department in charge of parks?

Why should we as tax paying citizens have to clean up and maintain a park that should be maintained by the government with our tax dollars? What is the point in paying taxes then?

That reservation aside, I will help out with cleaning up the park.

I was also hoping some of the media and government people that monitor BI would help out as well.....a short story in a newspaper with pictures about the park might compel the government to action.

I also will continue to call officials like MP of the area Frank Smith and ministry of works officials to try and spur action.

A tree is covering the stop sign on the corner of the streets.
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh156/hiphopanonymous1492/100_0034.jpg
And some one decorated this tree:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh156/hiphopanonymous1492/100_0027.jpg

This tree was topped, look at multible branches, and limbs are a lighter color than main tree, tree looks more like a witches broom.

Like Taf said, fix up, put in benches, and I say "selectivly" trim trees.

When passing area again look at Mahogany tree over by Lands and surveys, I have photos, when I have time I will post.

But getting back to tree, look at it good, note tall Coconut tree in background?

In 2005 I noticed how bad the tree was doing, all those dead limbs are called "Die Back", I took photo and from angle I took photo you could only see a few coconut limbs, 2008, so much of the tree has died back almost all of coconut Palm tree can be seen. Can any one see how bad this tree looks, and in front of a Gov. building, but ssssshhhhh dont talk to loud or they will have their tree hackers out to "trim" said tree.

Look also at the Black Olive trees on East Bay St. where Gov. printing (i think) is, any way, almost opp Hoffa, look how they hacked those trees.

And whenever your in the area of Village Rd shopping Center, look at that poor tree that is dying right in front of us, almost all dead limbs, very ugly, very sad. if I had time and money I would take care of these trees..........sigh!

Hi All,

Just returned from a long day of travel and it saddens me to see what we do with our parks and green spaces. I am on board for clean up and donations to the effort.

I have spent a week with my niece & nephew exploring parks and zoos in the US. Amazing how clean everything is kept and how we Bahamians can appreciate and follow the rules when we travel but won't do it at home.

Why don't we have a recycling program yet...or even trash cans that are regularly emptied? Why are there people who are complaining about not having a job when so many public spaces are in shambles? It amazes me the difference in attitudes? When we will learn to respect and take pride in our enviroment? Why do we only do it for the tourists and not for ourselves? What are we leaving in place for our children? Nassau is becoming one big ghetto and we are content with that.

Complacency is killing our country.
