View Full Version : Fix up this park please.....
hiphopanonymous 06-16-08, - 07:01 PM Farrington Square is a public park located on the corner of Armstrong St. and Bay Street.
This little park is dedicated to R.R.A Farrington, and was opened in October 1957.
This little park...is run down and dirty and in need of attention from the ministry of works or which ever government authority is in charge of the up keep of public parks.

The round stone lined plant holder in the middle of the has loads of garbage stuffed in it:

hiphopanonymous 06-16-08, - 07:07 PM A section of the wall bordering Armstrong street has been damaged for over a year...at least.

There are two garbage bins and one has had it's siding ripped off:

hiphopanonymous 06-16-08, - 07:10 PM A tree is covering the stop sign on the corner of the streets.

And some one decorated this tree:

hiphopanonymous 06-16-08, - 07:11 PM Hey Foxhillgal, is this tree topped?

hiphopanonymous 06-16-08, - 07:17 PM My history is a little rusty on the Hon. Farrington, and what his position was....but it warranted a park being dedicated in his honour...so why isn't the government taking better care of it?
Every day many tourists go by this little park...which could be quite beautiful if taken care of. Every day thousands of Bahamian motorists pass this park.
This park is located in St. Thomas More constituency....and Montagu constituency ends on the east side of Armstrong street...right across the road.
hiphopanonymous 06-16-08, - 07:19 PM Oh and LBT and/or the FNM needs to send some one to take down her campaign poster from May 2007 which is on a telephone pole in the park (and maybe also take down the other posters that are all over the place, the election done over):

hiphopanonymous 06-16-08, - 07:22 PM Another problem that needs to be looked into is stopping cars from parking inside the park.......this usually occurs on busy club nights when people going to Pure Nightlife or Charley's club park their cars up inside the park...causing damage to the grounds.
Maybe if the wall was rebuilt this wouldn't happen.
LotusPhoenix 06-16-08, - 07:31 PM The government wants to build a new park?????
PLEASE fix the ones we have. Lets not forget the cemetary/park by the new bridge. You can see the bones in the coffin of some of those graves.
Great Job Hipo, I never even realised that was a park. With this being so close to downtown and nearby Atlantis, one would think the area would be better kept.I guess we need to find out who is responsible for mainting parks and start calling.

One would think so......
I called a bunch of officials last summer about the park....I guess I'll try again now.
Tafadhali 06-17-08, - 11:23 AM something tells me that they on it already...even so if they dnt do anything it could be a community/summer service project for kids (fostering pride in parks and in their communities) or simply people who care about their constitiency
it needs some sod
the trees need to be trimmed (is it call shedding)
a few benches in the shade
a canopy or gazebo would be nice as well.
canewry 06-17-08, - 11:27 AM sad...this park too small to be neglected like this...
however this is another testament that government cannot donot maintain open spaces/monuments and historical buildings...
chancellor 06-17-08, - 12:16 PM I never even paid attention to that space. Sad, that it could have been a marvelous full, little green space had it been kept up to now.
Ironic, that by looking at the plaque, he seems to have been honored for his service in the the Ministry of Public Works.......

I noticed that too.
It is so sad the government is dis-honouring this man Farrington by not maintaining the park dedicated to him.
