Who's going to win??

American officials are charging OPEC nations with limiting supply thus increasing demand and driving up crude oil prices. OPEC on the other hand has claimed to increase supply and will continue increasing supply even in the face of expected decreases in demand, and that the US has purposely diminished the value of the dollar and much of the price of crude oil is due to US speculation.

Personally, I think they both are right. Although, I think the US is more at fault than OPEC.

Its not a real fight. Its for election showcasing my friend. Congress wants to make it appear as if they are doing something, before folks go to the polls.

US demand has gone down 500k barrels in the last year, so analysts report. The "powers that be", want for the American officials, to go into places like Anwar and deep into Alaska and offshore California. It would make extracting oil for the companies much cheaper, as they have a ready market, willing to buy oil.

You know full well what the real issue is, its with the speculation and low dollar. I don't think Americans are buying the case that increase in demand, is the root cause and Anwar, is the solution--no matter how much times folks like Limbaugh and Hannity, support the GOP/oil agenda for exploration in Anwar, to solve this problem.

The GOP's contention is more about energy independence than the economic benefits of domestic offshore drilling. However, if you're correct and speculation is the primary driver behind the escalating crude oil prices - then wouldn't a lift on the ban of offshore drilling lead to speculation that supply has increased while demand is decreasing therefore driving down the price of oil significantly??

Just playing devil's advocate.

Additionally, do you really believe the US intentionally weakened its currency to drive up the price of oil?? To what end??

The idea of offshore drilling is a part of a comprehensive plan that includes energy production from a wider array of sources. If you drive through many of the red states - you'll see windmills all over the countryside. Its almost frightening how big these things are. So the plan to drill offshore won't do much for the price of oil since it'll be a small slice in the overall energy supply.

Yea. Energy independency, that depends on domestic drilling for American oil companies, and not about new and cleaner energy. In fact, the have no new and clean energy policy--just simply drill in the USA. The left, have ben continually for new and green energy. So, their position on this now, "energy independence", is a total farce. They just are lobbying for American oil companies, to drill in Anwar and offshore. No more and no less.

The devil you are. LOL....getting the oil, is in the long term. But, let's analyze it. US consumption went down by 500k barrels, China has went up by 500k barrels. So, it would work out to, at the very least, a cancelling effect.

So, yes, you were right, it has more to do with the false speculation and low dollar, than it did with increased demand--allthough the latter, is what is causing the speculation and would have added to the fear in higher demand.

Well. It works both ways. Bernanke and those fellahs, are very smart men. They took subprime, and made it into a cash cow for the slect few, knowing that the American consumer would take it on the chin, considering their strong economy and production means. That being said, it was a welcomed un-intended consequnce--which they are keeping in place, to further make more money. Its a sick game, isn't it?

I'm for clean energy, the way a state/district, can take it. The oil companies won't go into the sweet night. They will cash out, as they have been doing!
:taped2:

As Goldman Sachs, "knew" about the dangers of subprime. Bush and the oil companies, knows full well the speculation caused by the low dollar, on the Petro dollar.

The truth is what it is.

Ominous themed conspiracy music playing in the background. Bernanke, Bush and the smoking man caused the price of oil to rise so that they could take over the world for the Aliens.
