Accuser won't take stand in Miller's case
By ARTESIA DAVIS, Guardian Senior Reporter, artesia@nasguard.com
The woman who has accused former radio boss Darold Miller of making unwanted sexual advances towards her will not take the stand when the case resumes today.
Magistrate Renae McKay has denied an application by Miller's lawyers Michael Kemp and Willie Moss to have the 31-year-old woman recalled for further cross-examination as they continue to present his defense against the allegations.
Miller, 52, of Millennium Gardens, is accused of soliciting sexual favors from the reporter while he worked as her supervisor at GEMS 105.9 FM. Miller lost his job as the station's chief operations officer following the allegations.
The woman alleged that Miller groped her and made sexually suggestive comments to her. Some of the alleged incidents took place at Miller's home, where the woman was staying after she had been kicked out of her sister's home.
Michael Bethel, another coworker who sought refuge in Miller's home, has testified on his behalf.
Miller did not take the stand, but he chose to make an unsworn statement from the dock.
He has alleged that his prosecution was politically motivated because his talk show, "The Darold Miller Show", was pulled off the air 40 days before the May 2007 general election.
He said that there were concerns that he could influence the electorate by his political commentary. He further alleged that the station's owners Deborah Bartlett and Cyprianna McWeeney were part of the conspiracy against him because they wanted to renege on his $300,000 contract.
Miller also claimed that the charges had been made because of his stand against "sissyism" by his refusal to allow Erin Green, a spokesperson for the Rainbow Alliance, the gay advocacy group, to appear on his show
