Why should this surprise you? It took my mother 25 years to get permanent residency married to a Bahamian and working as a nurse for government & private sector since 1965. Took an election and hope of my father's support for her to get it and he still didn't vote or speak out in then government's favor...but at least she got it.

Good luck, I applied in 1993 and got a letter in 1998 saying my application was received and they would get back to me.

This is now 2008 and 15 years and no word! This was for land in Andros, no shortage there.

The Bahamian way of doing it is, go to Crown Land, check the maps, identify a piece nobody own's and squat. I guarantee you when you apply for that piece you are squatting on, they will answer you and sell it to you cheaper, because you have already developed the land.

Believe me it works!!

Go the Haitian route: squat on it, and if someone try run you off it, tell them to get from around there because it's yours.

Isn't there a certain time that you have to be on the land?

After you have identified the piece, you must keep on them. Get your own surveyor, have it drawn up and submit it to them. Otherwise you wait and wait.

it took them 4 years to send me a letter to say they received my application. Geez I had even forgotten that i had applied. I finally went down to check up on it after that and they told me there was no land available where i had applied.
