Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez yesterday remanded an alleged prostitute to Her Majesty's Prison overnight after she gave explicit details in court about her arrest during the early morning hours on Wednesday.
Sherry Sweeting, a Bahamian, was led to court wearing a large black garbage bag to cover the skimpy outfit she was arrested in.
Police told the magistrate's court that underneath the plastic bag the woman was not wearing underwear and had on a backless, transparent tan mini dress. She was also wearing a pair of black boots.
Sweeting was charged with loitering on Bay Street, on June 18. Her age and address were not listed on court documents.
Sweeting told the court that she was standing on a downtown corner, waiting for a ride to take her to a nightclub when she was approached by police officers who allegedly told her — using an expletive — to move away from the corner.
Sweeting told Magistrate Gomez that after the officers made the comment, she responded by telling the officers that "(expletive) was made to sell." :footmouth
When the prosecutor asked why she made the comment, Sweeting smiled and repeated what she had said earlier.
Prosecutor Althea Potter asked Sweeting why she was in court wearing a garbage bag.
Sweeting said she was wearing the bag because she was naked.
Magistrate Gomez then asked why was she naked on Bay Street.
Sweeting said she was dressed sexy for the club. She said while her outfit was not appropriate for court, it was appropriate for the club.
Inspector Potter asked Sweeting if there was anyone she could call to bring her some clothes. But Sweeting said 'no' because she was her own woman with her own apartment and turns her own key.
After she was remanded to prison, Inspector Potter instructed a woman officer to help Sweeting find appropriate clothing for her court appearance on Friday.
Chief Magistrate Gomez asked Sweeting if she thought it was appropriate to use bad language in the court.
And even though the prosecutor did not object to bail, the chief magistrate still remanded Sweeting to prison.
While being led away from the court, Sweeting shouted out, "If you all don't use your (expletive) for profit that's your business because I will get profit for mines." :jawdroop:
Sweeting is expected to plead to the charge of loitering when she returns to court today.

Somethings have to be censored on tv...relatively innocent minors are watching! It would be nice to have a courtroom show...it sure would help w the backlog and make people take notice of how shameful some of their behavior is.

Judging from what transpired yesterday, it would have to be rated X.
I can't even imagine what happens in these courtrooms every day, (and I don't want to).

Do not be surprise if she walks, she did say she was waiting on a ride.
It is not illegal to wear skimpy clothes and wait on a corner for a ride!!

The Magistrate probably had just read the Brothel story in the papers and was lil miffed!
