Christie denies involvement in gay murders probe
By JUAN MCCARTNEY, Guardian Senior Reporter, juan@nasguard.com

Former Prime Minister Perry Christie yesterday denied that he is in possession of "any information that could possibly be helpful to the police in relation to any murder or other criminal investigation."

The Progressive Liberal Party leader's comments came in response to a tabloid story published on Thursday, that claimed he was involved with a murder investigation related to the deaths of several prominent men reported to have been homosexuals.

Handbag designer Harl Taylor and former College of The Bahamas Dean Thaddeus McDonald were murdered in their homes late last year. This year, HIV/AIDS activist Wellington Adderley and Senor Frogs waiter Marvin Wilson were also murdered in their homes. All the men were reportedly gay, and the way in which they were murdered has led to speculation that their deaths may somehow be connected.

One newspaper has even suggested that there may be a "gay serial killer" on the loose. That tabloid reported that Christie was assisting police with their investigation, and that the former prime minister had "briefed investigators on Taylor's habits, routine and friends."

On Thursday, Christie called the entire story a "malicious concoction of lies and falsehoods," including its references to his late mother.

The story said that Christie's late mother was reportedly Taylor's godmother. He also shot that rumor down on Thursday.

Christie said the tabloid should be "ashamed of itself" for continuing to manufacture what he called "wicked and completely false" stories in order to sell newspapers.

"This kind of muckraking journalism needs to be roundly condemned and rejected by all responsible elements of our society," Christie said.

Last month, the tabloid also reported that the Free National Movement was in possession of Taylor's diary, which reportedly contained a list of PLP politicians that were closely involved with Taylor.

When asked about the existence of Taylor's diary, or a list of PLP politicians that may have been involved with Taylor, Minister of National Security Tommy Turnquest said he had no idea how that rumor got started, but added that he had no information whatsoever in that regard.
