Many times I've been told "you think your better than others, or am a white girl". All of this just because i came from a private school. When your in a private school everything is settled. Most students do not live in the ghetto evern though some do. That is not a bad at all. The thing is in a public school you have many children that live in the ghetto and the minute they see a new child come in that acts civilized and intelligent they tend to start more or less pick on them. I am not saying that all private school children are civilized am saying its where u come from and just based on the individual. Although, 85% of the chance your child would be more civilized from a private than a government school. The classes that go on in public schools are ridiculous. Far as am concern in my whole life, it was 6-8 subjects a day now in a public school i get just simply 4 subjects. I believe thats slackin off. For me personally I do love a challenge. Plus parents do not want to waste there money on there child in a private school so the child tends to work harder. Parents at times need to attend to there childs interest, because if they are not into then the child would do whatever he/she wants to. No manners are there no love no nothing, no self esteem or pride. Now a days I've heard "Oh u look like a private school student." It is really funny. No one is better than anyone. everyone goes to school to learn so what are you watching or degrading others for? Money or no money it doesnt matter when u die. Although on earth have the best attitude and be civilized at a private school. If ur at a government school just be wise and moderate. Dont be a fool and always follow fashion being unique and outstanding and smart is a beautiful thing to be.

I am not sure what you are trying to say with this statement.

There are many intelligent and civilized kids in public schools, even if they are outnumbered by what I call the unruly ones. Not every child in Public School comes from a ghetto which I am assuming you are referring to as a physical place. Ghetto is a mentality, and just because one attends a posh private school does not mean that you cant have and display that kind of mentatlity.
School has nothing to do with it, but more your home enviroment. And I can say that not every child in Private school is well behaved either, believe me I have seen some just act a fool.

I am not saying that all private school children are civilized am saying its where u come from and just based on the individual. Although, 85% of the chance your child would be more civilized from a private than a government school

That is grossly incorrect, and you should not even attempt to use stats here, unless you are a professional in the area of education and psychology. You cant throw everyone in the pot, based on your few experiences, it is not fair.

I will admit that the public School system is need of reform badly, and that we need to provide a more challenging syllabus to students. You sound like you are a determined student, who is a bit ticked off at being put in a Public School. Well regardless of where you are, work hard. It does not matter the school that you attend, try to excel regardless. Your parent(s) are obviously doing the best they can, private school is simply expensive, and it is not the only avenue to excel. If you find that Public School is not enough of a challenge then puruse extra-curricular academics and activities. I attended Public School all of my life, and I am know in Canada in University. It becomes a whole different ball game at this level, no one cares if you went to a private school or not, just your academic credentials and capabilities.

There's no difference believe me. Everywhere, you have your high-acheivers and your slackers. You get targeted if you act sensible and have 'home-training' in public and private schools, because sadly, jungless (sp.?) are not reserved to just the ghetto . . .

I am most greatful at ur response to my thread. I have read over just now and realised that it is a personal issue. Now that doesnt mean we can debate on that ok. Cause I dont want to. I have just joined this site and i think i made a wise decision in doing so because it has made me wiser. The truth or the matter is, is that I dont have a problem with the gov. am at its just that one issue happened and it TICT!! me right off. Am over it now. I was really touched by ur statements and I undersand wat ur saying. I shouldnt compare, cause its really based on there enviroment at home. Maybe because the environment I live in is so different I really shouldnt have a say on this. The only thing I should have a say on is the cirriculum between these two systems. And my apologies to the ones I have a offended. Sorry.

Since you just started posting I won't jump on you because I do want you to come back and share your opinions.

Let me give you some background on my experience. I went to a public school in Freeport then attended COB and got my Associate Degree in the top of my class. After which I worked at a private school in Nassau for a year so I have a great deal of experience in the way the private and public schools in the Bahamas go.

I can tell you that I didn't see much of a difference in the curriculum at these two institutions in terms of quality. They were both based on the BGCSE exams and thus had the same basic courses. I was able to take and pass 9 such exams at my school and at the private school where I worked the students there took about the same amount of these exams.

The only difference between the two institutions were the facilities available and the specific extra courses available. For example, at my high school students took Construction as a class and they also had Workshop where they worked on cars. In the private school they students took Advanced Placement classes. All of this was null and void after the first semester or two of classes at COB so I don't think it matters at all. It all depends on the student.

You know what? You are correct. There is a huge difference between the two types of schools. Private schools tend to entice better teachers (more pay), better students (more selective in enrollment), resulting in better education. The drawback is that the 'rich' private schooler looks down their nose at others that don't have the same clothes, riches, etc. Those less wealthy (but just as or more intelligent) become targets for those that had the luck of being the result of two rich people copulating. This is where my problem with private schools begins. The elitism creates a rift between the classes (upper, middle & lower, not grades) that can be the root of other discriminatory attitudes.

i dont know what the stats are, but i would feel that generaly kids from the private schools get more attention!
but to be honest, please dont pad the account of school kids by the way we test em..bjc bgcse..cause it aint a true measurement of the real bahamian potential!
so in saying that, private kids just get more attention, cause the classes are smaller, and the one on one's are more frequent!
even if you are a mediocre student you can at least attempt to get right...in public schools..either you gat it or you dont!!

but to me some people just meant to follow..we need workers and followers!
its just true..
so be happy with the lot you gat in life...cause it is yours and make the best of it!

In my opinion, none of this is true.
