Why we don’t have a radio station that plays mostly or only Bahamian music. If you go to Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti you can find a radio station that plays at least 95% of their music. All these radio satiation we have here you might get 1hr Bahamian music. If you go on vacation to Jamaica you expect to hear reggae. When tourist comes hear they expect to hear Bahamian music.:realmad::realmad::sparky::sparky:

What you saying is true. The first thing i do when I go away is buy music that is native to the country.the radio stations always come up with some excuse as to why they don't play bahamian music. Nothing sounds better to me than some sweet bahamian music.but unless the public demand and request for it, it will be the same 3days a year we hear bahamian music all day.

Don't forget about ISLAND 102.9 FM - or listen on the web to www.islandfmonline.com - we play 80% or more Bahamian music - which includes music by Bahamians - not to start THAT debate or anything...

But it is only on the net which is good. It could be heard around the world.

When Island 102.9 came out I sad to my self at last Bahamian music. But that was short live. And you don't play 80% Bahamian music. Not even 40%.

Which is why I said music by Bahamians as well as Bahamian music. We have so many Bahamians doing all kinds music, not just rake n' scrape or calypso, etc. We have Bahamians doing rap, reggae, hip hop, r & b, rock, ballads and on and on. If you are referring to the classical Bahamian genres of the rake n' scrape and the junkanoo and calypso, etc. then of course we play way more than that because Bahamian musicians, like any other musicians, have no boundaries. Is Visage not a Bahamian band because they do other kinds of music? So that is what we play, music by Bahamians, some of which is not the Bahamian genres.

Of course, that is our Bahamian Haitian programme that has been on since October 2001 - the other part of our play list is Caribbean and world and, the last time I checked, Haiti is a part of the Caribbean, much as our Soca and Reggae hour every afternoon from 4 to 5 is.

On a related note, at Y98 we are actively seeking music by Bahamians that fits our format. It is hard to come by though. Was just in touch with one musician today though so hopefully... slowly but surely... we will have more Bahamians in our rotation.

If you know of any local musicians who might want to take a different shot at getting some air time... Clue them in please.

Maybe if you mentioned it on air, Z, that you guys were looking for Bahamian stuff you might have some more submissions. I know we sure get plenty of all genres, especially after we started running spots some years ago saying we were looking for music from Bahamians. Just a thought.
