COP to reveal face of 'gay killer'
By ARTESIA DAVIS, Guardian Senior Reporter, artesia@nasguard.com
Police plan to release an artist's sketch of the man believed to be responsible for the murder of Senor Frogs' waiter Marvin Wilson today, The Guardian has learned.
Chief Supt. Glen Miller, who heads the Central Detective Unit, confirmed Sunday that the composite had been completed based on the accounts of eyewitnesses.
Wilson's June 4 murder was the fourth in a series of brutal deaths in the homosexual community, which has sparked speculation that the deaths are the work of a serial killer.
AIDS awareness activist Wellington Adderley was found murdered in his Delancy Street apartment on May 26. His throat had been cut.
The deaths of College of the Bahamas professor Dr. Thaddeus McDonald and handbag designer Harl Taylor last November also shocked the gay community. McDonald's body was discovered in the bedroom of his Queen Street apartment on November 16. He had been bludgeoned with a clothing iron. And Taylor was also found murdered in the bedroom of his West Hill Street home on November 18.
There was no evidence of forced entry at any of the homes, leading police to believe that the men knew and trusted their killers. Chief Supt. Miller has said there is a "possibility" that the crimes are connected, but there is no evidence yet to support this assumption.
But the common thread in the lives of all of the men is that they were homosexual, and they reportedly dated men who frequented a popular downtown club and Senor Frogs.
There is also a theory that the same person is responsible for the murders of Adderley and Wilson and another man killed Dr. McDonald and Taylor.
According to sources, an unfinished glass of red wine was found at the homes of Adderley and Wilson. A package of condoms and a bottle of lubricant was also found in Wilson's home.
Dr. McDonald, Taylor, and Adderley were all found dead in their beds. According to well-placed sources, McDonald and Taylor were both wearing boxer shorts. It is not known how Adderley was dressed, but Wilson was also in his boxer shorts.
Wilson was the only one of the men who put up a valiant struggle against his attacker. Wilson, a 32-year-old Jamaican, managed to make it out of his home and alert his neighbors. He knocked on their doors, begging for help. But he was declared dead on arrival by the time an ambulance took him to the Princess Margaret Hospital.
The attacker fled on foot, leaving a trail of blood that ended at Temple Christian School on Fourth Terrace, Centreville.
