View Full Version : No long weekend this Independence; work productivity expected to hit a low 11 July
watsayu 06-27-08, - 05:02 PM Bahamians are really looking forward to a July 10th, long weekend must be forgiven for feeling a little short changed ... I cannnot believe it... Independence Day will be falling on a Thursday and yes, we hae to return to work on That Friday, July 11, 2008. DANG !!!!
35 years so you know we ga be celebrating... so that mean party, party on Tursday and return to work on Friday... the public service and many private companies expect staffers to be at work bright-eyed and bushy-tailed both Wednesday and Friday... I say hell no... it will not work..........
In short, if you're not dipping into your vacation bank to make it a long weeken, chances are your bosses will not see you that Friday and what is more I am sure there will be no productivity...
So the question, will you be working on Friday, July 11th, 2008...
Watsayu..........
But the question remains: Will they get it?
Teniel 06-27-08, - 06:34 PM I doubt there will be any difference in the level of productivity when it comes to the Public Service, whether there is a holiday or not. Some public servants treat every day like a half day before the holiday.
Little Fisherman 06-27-08, - 07:22 PM Well, you missed it again, you forgot those of us that will return to work on Friday.
Not even on the poll. Idiot!!!

Madison1985 06-30-08, - 11:24 AM well i hav to go to work on dat day cuz dat my last day at work and pay day
androsann 06-30-08, - 11:30 AM This is the reason why so many countries have adjusted their traditional floating holidays to fixed ones. I know that Independence Day is important to us as a nation, but someone with a bit of testicular fortitude should have thought this through and, just as Discovery Day is now movable, made the actual holiday the Friday. J.M.O.

BAHMIA 06-30-08, - 12:02 PM Well, you missed it again, you forgot those of us that will return to work on Friday.
I don't think that's an option. :D
Besides, for non-government workers, Friday is payday, so you know everyone ca be there for that.

Besides, for non-government workers, Friday is payday, so you know everyone ca be there for that.GOV workers pay go directly to the bank... so that is even more reason that they will not be there... BOL..
The Exotic One 06-30-08, - 12:23 PM ah well the holiday is the holiday.. my question is the independence celebrations on arawak cay might be affected..:cutie:
~*Lovely*~ 06-30-08, - 12:30 PM Oh, well. The holiday is the holiday for real. I don't see any reason for people to get an extra because they were irresponsible on the holiday. Anyway, I'm sure there will be lots of sick day and vacation use along with the good ol' no-shows.
On another note, tomorrow is Canada Day. Two floors of the 5-floor building I work in is empty, and the others only have about half of the total number of staff working today. They declared themselves a holiday today. I guess it's not just a Bahamian thing. LOL.
