YardManPickney 06-30-08, - 02:40 AM so how did the bahamas olympic trials turn out?
The track n field was so dishorganized shame, ppl get hurt on da track n no medic for ten minutes wat da hell, schedule dont make any sense, what is worst is some races had one person running it. in the olympics if a country has one person in a event in track they are allowed to bring that person regardless of a qualifying time. If there is more than one then they have to compete and make the qualfying time/mark. Plus some races had the competitors waiting at the start waiting for equipment. Plus the stadium is poorly built. But swimming was a the complete opposite. fluid, swift, things on time, as soon as one race finish the other one start, sometimes people from previous races was in the pool still. They have up to dat equipment. Excellent, equipment working and didnt have to wait on anyone. Officials did a great job a need to be commended. If every other other sport federation would model themselves like the BSF (bahamas swim federation) we would be top class in almost everything we compete in. Mind you they still have ways to go(politics in some decisions when selection and sponsorship comes up) but they are well on the way. BSF made me proud and showed me us in the bahamas can be world class.

Veronica Campbell-Brown made it for the 200 in a time of 21.94 but the only gold medal she hasnt collected yet 100m she was upset, so she is on the team just not in the event she wanted to cement her career with. Plus she will be on that 4x100m team. I see Yard taking both 4x100m relays

Hopefully the news papers will have total results of track n field but of swimming also. Every where else the results get put up that day on the internet why cant we and we are a force in track SMT, things that make you go hmmm
chancellor 06-30-08, - 02:54 AM ........Plus the stadium is poorly built. ............
I guess they are letting the Thomas Robinson Stadium fall apart with the plans for the new one.......I just hope the New Stadium does not become the new "straw market" issue.
YardManPickney 06-30-08, - 02:59 AM hey, how about them bahamian olympian swimmers? go arianna!
Arianna, Verance, Alana, Jeremy, there is one or two more but i cant believe i forget i was just out there. i will keep everyone up to date when i look at my papers again. Also a number of swimmers from different countries qualified for the olympics at this years nationals. People came from Costa Rica, Guatemala, Jamaica, TnT, Argentina, hondorus to make it to Beijeng. There is some controversy however, for those who dont know those who swim for at the university level get stipends from the government to help with their training it is only available for those who are at the university level however there is a female HIGH SCHOOL student (dont call names) who is currently receiving this, she is not even one of our top notch swimmers she only got to travel to carifta last year due to us needing a fourth person for a relay, for those who dont know carifta when it comes to swimming is at the bottom when it comes to international meets that a yute can qualify for the next step from that is CISC (caribbean International swim championships) then CCAN (Caribbean, Central American Nationals) so if she couldnt qualify for carifta she isnt that great. but thats not the big problem the problem is that one of our swimmers who is in university and going to the olympics Verance Burrows his stipend has been cut, for no reason and he wasnt notified something seems foul there. Now he is trying to find sponsorship why do things always get so political. What is wrong with this picture, first someone who isnt eligible for it is getting it and then someone who is eligible and deserving it has been cut from him. Something is foul in Denmark as Shakespeare would say. Or is it because ppl not from nassau always get neglected/overlooked, and in the BSF this is almost normal. Stop da games the best shuld compete for us end of story
chancellor 06-30-08, - 03:13 AM I always hear about that especially from people in Freeport, that people in Nassau get first cut regardless of talent.
Then these people go international and embarrass us.
YardManPickney 06-30-08, - 03:35 AM its disheartening but we as a whole suffer because of this, but it isnt endemic to swimming its every sport with the exception of probably sailing and cricket, cricket because most people arent even bahamian
chancellor 06-30-08, - 03:46 AM Well that is why it is very important for corporate Bahamas to step in when it can. When people see true talent, it needs to be supported.

Das cuz one of the doctors for the team (Dr. JS) was too busy outside thw track hawking drinks from his back trunk. I carn believe a dr could be so classless, especially one that doesn't have to do this b-ish!

Scotia probably put the funds up and allowed the BAAAs to do whatever. On the other hand, RBC has been involved for years, at least 20 or more and I think they play a part in the planning!
