View Full Version : why i would never hire staff in a union run country Rory 03-18-05, - 06:54 PM .. Rizzo 03-19-05, - 03:41 PM The thing is Rory....the Yacht Club didn't even do anything wrong. They released the workers and gave them their severance pay. That is totally legal. What do the ex-staff expect? Same reason I don't like unions now.....this is not a union issue....not an issue of victimization either.....the people have to cut back cuz they don't have sufficient funds to employ all their staff,...so they let some go with severance pay! What's the big deal....17 years or 2 years....you got your severance pay according to your contract so move on.... :dgi: Alien 03-19-05, - 03:43 PM isnt goverment supposed to regulate and help all people, and this paticular case the worker from unfair labour hours and pay? wouldnt you like govt to help settle a disagreement where the entire industry or a huge part of it may be at stake!! private matters are only private matters when a viable portion of the population isnt at stake!! instead of "better" govt regulation, sounds like you want none..and let freedom reign..even if it disadvantages the small man... i say let govt help if they cant come to an agreement...it is what they are there for!! :) RockWell 03-19-05, - 05:43 PM Not if its coming out of my and your pocket, such as with Royal Oasis. Besides, it is discrimination, what about all the other unemployed bahamians out there, who have either been fired or layed off, what about them, or the poor kids begging in front of the gas stations and food stores, the homeless elderly people that can barely walk and are left to die in the street. So they are left to starve or die, while the disgruntaled staff get hand outs from the government. The government is only stepping in for votes, they dont care about the poor bahamian person, just those that goto the media and that can help the government get exposure for their future reign. And this IS a private matter and none of the governments business, It is 11 people in a country of 300,000, and it is a private company/club, they have every right to fire and hire at will, especially if there is no money to pay the staff. Many bahamians need to stop expecting a job, and start to go out and earn one. And yes, this can be said for many americans also .. especially in Miami and other ghettos! :D Unions in the Bahamas are run by a bunch of criminals with no care for the general bahamian economy. Is tis the same person who wants government help in regulating the alarm industry? :bored:An no matter what U say those people at the yatch club were victimized. RockWell 03-19-05, - 07:03 PM no. However, regulating a low voltage industry is a totally different thing. Especially when homes start burning down and people dying from imporper installations of power and electrical equipment that goes along with low voltage installations. And , go tell them get a job and stop crying. So what are U doing when U MENTION Americans installing alarms in business places on Bay Street? RockWell 03-19-05, - 09:38 PM Need to check the posts, it was video surveillance, and that is the governments job to regulate immigration. But not LABOUR chancellor 03-19-05, - 11:33 PM Victimization is such an abused word. SO much that people use it without having an adequate knowledge of the word. Im begining to think that firing somebody is against the law. The missions of these unions today have become corrupted, and has corrupted the work ethic of the bahamian workforce in carrying out those missions. I feel that instead of riding on the back of some union to protect their job they should actually try to work...and work hard. Why do you think the royal oasis packed up and left? It wasnt mainly the hurricane, that was just the right opportunity to escape the union who continued their antagonistic agenda with the developers. Unions are pounding into peoples head that the employer is always rich and are setting in this slave/ master sentiment, thus the constant strikes and unwavering demands. And yet people shell out their $10 per week and for what! All I have seen is these union leaders getting fatter every year off of the workers I mean really, whatch them you can see them gaining weight. What employers must do is put their foot down. They know the law and their rights, carry out your rightful decisions despite the displeasure of some loudmouth leech. And the government should stay out of private business. When labour steps in they only make a quick fix which falls apart later on into a bigger mess. We are too small and too dependant on a single industry to have foolishness like this. When we run out all of our precious ( and they are precious) investors and we have no jobs, because of our mindless picketing. Who do we blame? There will be no one left to blame but ourselves. Our elected governments work hard to bring in these people, and then the unions come in and brainwash us and then we attack and stop the operations of our foreign employers until they run off to the Caymans or someone else. Remember They dont really need us, investors can count their losses and go somewhere else. We dont need more of our losses to be another's gain, not jamaica's not babados end esspecially not the cayman's. UNtil we can invested in our own and other nations we better get some sense into our heads and act right. Teniel 03-21-05, - 02:15 PM Unions Our A Double Edged Sword In This Country!!! Alien 03-23-05, - 06:49 PM Is tis the same person who wants government help in regulating the alarm industry? :bored:An no matter what U say those people at the yatch club were victimized. hahahahahahahahahahahaha :D that was too funny....hahahahahahaha someone caught rory being rory!!! well they spend our tax dollars far worse than that....in fact we dont pay enough taxes ..and it is the reson why we have to savvy our way out of messes like this!! :cop: but i do agree with rory that unions are crooked, and even ghettos like D.C...are the scourge of the world...i think i understand rory..WHY DO EVEN HAVE POOR PEOPLE..THEY ARE SOO POOR!!! why dont they go mout and get some money????? isnt that the way you see it rory? casualobserver 04-13-05, - 01:12 PM isnt goverment supposed to regulate and help all people, and this paticular case the worker from unfair labour hours and pay? i say let govt help if they cant come to an agreement...it is what they are there for!! The problem is that people go to the gov't for help far too early in the process. They also take it to the media for a trial by public opinion. This is the whole problem - people aren't getting satisfaction from their current or ex-employers so they appeal to the government who doesn't do anything because of the redtape. Therefore they use the media to put public pressure on both the employer and the government. It's a smear campaign that damages the public image of the employer specifically, but the nation as a whole. Its a shame when people think they are owed something much more when terminated than they were worth when they were an employee. 5½ weeks vacation to work at a yacht club!? Sounds pretty cushy to me... Alien 04-13-05, - 09:17 PM The problem is that people go to the gov't for help far too early in the process. They also take it to the media for a trial by public opinion.
