Maybe its jus me who have a problem wit dis. I was heading to work a Sunday afternoon and I saw a family coming from church in a Government vehilce. As high as gas is $5.69 a gallon dem vehicles should be parked after 5pm Monday - Friday and on weekends. Dat does boil me cause dey could get dem Government car filled up to run up and down all day doin personal business and errytime I gatta go to da gas station I almost get a heart attack cause gas gone up again. It takes me almost $100 to fill up my car now and it use to cost me $50.

Should they be made to park dem cars???

In addition to their gas, wonder if they pay to maintain the vehicle, oil changes, etc, as well as Insurance and License and Inspection. If they dont, they should not be driving the vehicle for anything but work IMO.

official government business doesn't always end at 5pm from Mon-Sat...

Sometimes some hard working officials work well into late evening sometimes late nights... so the issue of time of day/night isnt my big concern..... but if someone has evidence that government cars are being used to go clubbing then I say post the plate number and the name of the person responsible for the car... That cannot and should not be permitted or excused...

We should know that...the PM drives his personal car (142) on the weekend unless on official business, and when he een driving Hubert M or Boogaloo drives him!

If the person is on government time I have no problem wit dat. However, I went to school wit somebody who mother work fa government and had a government car. Dey never had a personal car in dere life so all their personal business was done in da government car. Now dat I have a problem wit.

So this how it go...
Directors, Permanent Secretaries, etc i.e. people with status in the various ministries will have a car for their use WITHIN GOVT AFFAIRS, these cars are in constant possesion of these persons (PS's, Directors, Dep. Directors, etc.). Beside these cars, various ministries have cars (some ministries more than others) for lower level civil servants to perform duties (messengers etc.). For instance, the treasury dept, or DEHS would have more cars than the dept. of agriculture or dept. of fisheries, as these ministries dont. These cars should be returned after official govt. business is done with. So lets put it into perspective. The PS of the Ministry of Agri and Marine resources will have a car, as well as the directors etc. beside that there are cars for them to go out and count fish on the dock or count vegetables at the farm. after lower level civil servants finish the car goes back to the ministry, but the higher level civil servants take their cars home. Now that we gat dat straight lets talk important stuff.....maintenance...theres a govt. gas station and mechanic shop of sorts across from coca cola on JFK. for the most part they are crowded and out of the way for most civil servants. When lover level civil servants use the car for their day to day jobs, and need to refill, if they cant get to the station at JFK, some will take gas reciepts back to the ministry to be reimbursed, most dont bother, unless its more than a $5 bill. now, from what i've seen, the higher level civil servants with their "take home cars" know that the cars get used for more than government business and there for dont bother themselves about the gas that they use in the govt. cars...what they will do though is take the cars to the govt mechanic when needed. lets be real though, during workin hours you cant be expectin these people to be switchin cars on their lunch hour to go pick up their kids or pick up lunch....so if u see them waitin for their kids at school how u ga knock them? now, this is what i've seen for myself in some of the more efficient, reliable, stay-out-of-the-bad -forums-on-bahamasissues.com ministries. As for drivin these cars at totally off hours on the weekend, some do it, some dont...but keep in mind that these will all be higher level civil servants because the other cars used for day to day ministry tasks would have to be authorized to be out, and i dont know how many directors of dept.'s would risk their cars being out unnecessarily with people who they are responsible for. someone made a comment about seeing someone in the HOA in one of these red plated cars....i doubt that though cuz they have blue and white plates! the ones that say CM for Cabinet Minister.......:-O
