Suspect arraigned for housebreaking, armed robbery and rape
A young man who was apprehended by police last Wednesday while attempting to flee the scene of a home invasion in South Bahamia was arraigned yesterday morning in the Freeport Magistrate Court.
Eighteen-year-old Dale Scottie Pierre of Pinetree Close, Seahorse Village, was formally charged with seven serious criminal offences.
The prosecution is alleging that Pierre, while 'being concerned together with others on Wednesday, June 25, did break and enter the said dwelling house with intent to steal.
He was also charged with dishonestly receiving one Motorola cellphone, one Nokia cellphone, one silver Zenith remote control, one disc cleaner and $160 in cash, unlawfully causing damage to a 32" Plasma flat screen TV in the amount of $4,000, engaging in sexual intercourse with two females without their consent, robbing the female occupants of a number of personal and household items and resisting the lawful arrest by a police officer acting in the execution of his duties.
Pierre, who was not represented by counsel, was not required to enter pleas to the indictable charges and pleaded not guilty to the summary offences.
Acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Helen Jones adjourned the hearing to the August 19 and remanded the defendant to Her Majesty's Prison, Fox Hill.
She also ordered that he be examined by a doctor before being taken to the prison, after he complained of being beaten by the police.
