I just finish reading an article on these horses, and apparently, there are about six left. All the rest just dead. :jawdroop: And to think that they were apart of Bahamian history and what makes the Bahamas so unique. I guess in another 10 years, they will be known as the extinct wild horses of Abaco. Sad.

Can they be bred? Why are there so few? Are they being killed? or was this inevitable due to the small size of population and genetic closeness of species?

Will have to read your link when I get the time (i'm sneaking at work).

That's a reason why the Bahamas needs a national park. The nation needs an area where wildlife can be protected-- not just horses, but wild pig(boar) and sealife including reefs.

Man, I messed up over this situation!!

Those animals have been running loose in North Abaco since the Spanish dem was here. When I first remember, there were close to 100 animals in the herd.

Den come along all the do gooder environmentalist types who wan "take care" of the horses. They fenced them in behind barbed wire and electric fence. Now, we down to 6. So much for taking care of the animals.

Laud hep us!!

nope. I am determined not to work at ALL this summer. About to leave and go see this Marina Village place over PI. I have a former class mate who works there. Trying to organize enough gas money and valet parking money for the explorer.
