Late yesterday evening we had a scare out of this world. My lil cousin (6yrs) was at a pool party with his mom. There was an emergency with another child and my cousin slipped away from his mom who was watching the other situation.

She can't say how long he was gone but after she realize he was missing, she started searching for him.. They found him lifeless in the bottom of the pool!

Someone performed CPR and resuscitated him. He was rushed to the hospital where the doctors were able to stabilize him.

He was hysterical once the doctors revived him and told his mom not to leave him, as he was not ready to die. We are waiting to see if any other damage was done, but doctors said everything appears to be ok!

This morning he is talking and alert. He told his mom he was walking along the edge of the pool, fell in and could not get out.

I am upset, because it had to have been a while for him to struggle, lose consciousness and sink to the bottom of that pool.

Parents please take advantage of any swimming camps available and PLEASE, WATCH YOU KIDS WHEN THEY ARE NEAR THE WATER!!
EVERY SECOND COUNTS!!

Thank God there was someone there who knew C.P.R and started to work on him immediately, the doctor said the quick response saved his life.

Lord God thank you for sparing his life. Wow I know every one still jumpy after that.

Ensure all water is out of his lungs.

There is a survival swimming class for infants at the Lyford Cay School pool taught by an expat couple. I will get info and post. they may also do the same thing at other pools, not sure. Perhaps a group could get together and approach them to do the course for their kids.

Well the Doc said that they are going to keep him until Thursday or Friday as he had swallowed a lot of water, he was unconscious and not breathing.

Both he and his parents are traumatized, especially his father who was on another island and could not get a flight because it was really late.

His dad was on the first thing smoking this morning and well he had some choice words for the mom!:taped2:

She was suppose to be watching him, but the other child was the centre of attention.

I know that will have to do a lot therapy to get him near water again! He says he does not want to die, yesterday's incident really shook that kid up!

We are very happy that everything ended well!

i know its scary to think about but just be thankful that he is alive.

kids are almost never to young to learn to swim. so from about 3 yrs old let your kids take lessons or teach them to dog paddle at least.

knowing how to swim is a very necessary survival skill.

also in general you just have to be careful around water even though you know how to swim.

Exactly, mommy always says better safe than sorry. Thank Heaven's he is okay because not only would the family be in pain but I can't even imagine his father who wasn't there....He may have been more traumatized than anyone.

I refer you to post #4. Survival swimming is taught here to infants. They are taught before they can speak to instinctively roll onto their backs and float should they fall in. This eliminates much of the panic and buys them time. In the US, they are taught fully clothed for exactly that reason. I have seen the results of this first hand and highly recommend this program to anyone with children. I will get the name of the couple and post tomorrow.
