Hello All,

My usual custom was interrupted this morning when I went to view The Nassau Guardian. When you go to view a story at www.thenassauguardian.com you get the message saying
"Get a copy of today's Nassau Guardian for this and other exciting stories."

They cant think they are 21st century when most other great news media outlets are free! Hhhhmmmmmm......someone was not thinking!:realmad:

Wow! There is hardly much point in having a web site if all they are going to do is tell you to buy the paper!

The Journal down here in Exuma was free for a while, but that is because they were trying to build a market. Same for the online Journal. There is no reason for the Guardian to be online, save as a subscription service. The Tribune is not online because they have a loyal market already. Why give away something that people are willing to pay for? These newspapers are there to make money, not because they have nothing better to do, after all...

Then let them charge a subscription fee for online readers. It will do two things:

1. Allow Bahamian news to be accessed from around the world
2. Raise the standards because I ain't paying for some of the crap they call 'reporting'. If I'm going to pay for an online subscription, I want some quality in it!

Can you image this sh*t. And they don't even update the stories daily. The Guardian gatta do better than this man. I guess they saying that since the Tribune isn't online, that we should be grateful, that they're taking up bandwidth space.

I can understand that they want to make money and grow their business and have no issues with them for that, however, in some respects, I feel they are cutting off their noses to spite their faces. To me they are showing, as happens way too often in this country, that they do not consider that there is anyone of any importance in this Bahamaland outside of New Providence or Grand Bahama. Not everyone in this country can actually go out and buy a copy of their newspaper. It is simply not available and obviously they have no regard for the thousands of people, Bahamian or otherwise who are outside of the country.

If their website was properly set up then they would generate income from it from advertising. I seriously hope they will reconsider this backwards move.

I do note though, that for once, The Journal online has been updated with todays news at a reasonable hour of the day and I hope they will go back to their early morning updates.

I am just wondering if they have not yet uploaded the articles yet as the PDF version is last Friday.

My family buys the NG solely because it is the newspaper I am able to access online when I am away. It's their way of paying for the service. Well, I will be calling them very shortly to tell them not to bother, and to go back to the Tribune. This is ridiculous.

Money should not be an issue. It's really not rocket science - Update the website on time and sell online ads!

I am SO unimpressed right now.

I guess I have to bring earphones to work and listen to the news on the radio now... Until they decide they're not making enough money to keep streaming online. LQ

I find that BI gives me more news, and quicker, that the press does. :)

In fact this opens up the way for most online communities and media eg. BahamasPress, that is based online and can give immediately update their news if they want/need to.

Soon there will be people who will not buy the Gaurdian, Nor Tribune, Nor Journal, nor THE PUNCH! There will be Bahamians who will get their news first thing i the morning by the click of a mouse.....and the great news houses will be tripping over themselves to get back on the web properly.

It looks like you can't upload the most recent stories. But when you click National News you can get those stories so maybe you can get stale news online (which for non residents I don't really see the problem there) but if you want todays news, buy todays paper.

Can't say I blame them. Tings tough.

People have been saying that for when things was good. So I don't know who to believe.....
