View Full Version : $2 Dollars Bus Ride
diarra 07-08-08, - 01:11 PM I noticed that noone even refferred to PTAB and their Bus card (cashless) system they been proposing.... that would include free transfers.... That would pretty much blow the $8 a day argument out the water. Plus they have schedules, bus conduct rules etc etc... 42 is not bad at all considering the average bus driver a) rents the plate b) spends about $100 - $150 per day on fuel...

That has not been implemented as of yet. What about the other buses not under PTAB. They can carry on with their same slack service. The public tranist system needs to be under one banner for these proposed changes to really take effect island wide. It doesnt mean a hill of beans when there are 10 bad drivers on the road for every 1 good driver.

So what happens when I jump on a bus that dont do the cashless system but I have my bus card???
partshaven 07-08-08, - 02:10 PM So how duo u suggest the busses make a profit with the price of diesel..? Hey for those of us driving the gas pump is a killer too.. we are now paying twice as much as we used to at the pumps.. When i first bought my car 4 years ago it was about $40 to fill up... News flash it is now $75 for the to fill up.. Gas is high point blank!!!! :cutie:
Yes gas is high, but you can afford it becuase you are getting paid to afford it. What you must realize is that a 2 dollar bus fare is like paying for gasoline except having a car. So why not raise it to 1.25 or 1.50 at most but 2 dollars is too hard for minimum wage workers no matter how you look at it.

The Exotic One 07-08-08, - 02:17 PM It aint that ya know Exotic One. Im looking at a person who have to catch 2 bus to work and 2 bus goin home. Plus when dey get off da bus they gatta walk another 5 mins before they get in their house. So that work out to be $8a day and if they do that 5 days per week thats $40 per week. Minimum wage is $150 per week, come on nahh thats almost $50.00 out of their pay check a week just catching the bus. If they raise the bus fare they gatta give better service. Busses run on da clock and on time, bus stops should be within every couple of blocks and from east to west and north to south.
Im paying just as much as you to fill up my vehicle now. I live Cowpen Road and have to go PI 5 days out of the week. I had to cut down on my driving and only go out when I need to. I told my friends as long as the price of gas stay the way it is they will not see me.
As unfortunate as that may be for persons catching the bus then maybe thee bus system needs to look into transfers if the person is continuing on the same route, but u cannot expect them not to go up on the price with the price of diesel being what it is..:cutie:
bahmaboy 07-08-08, - 03:09 PM to be honest the cost of fuel has gone up but not to impact the hughe profits a bus would pull in.
a bus route in nassau is small comaritively speaking to buses routes in bigger countries, cities.
for example lets say a bus gets 15 miles per gallon. lets use the 19 bus route.
the entire route from begining to end cant be more than 6 miles. to use one gallon of fuel would be a total of 2 and half round trips. if on each round trip the driver averages 25 passenger or 25.00 bucks even with fuel at 6 bucks a gallon he made a killing.
the bus drivers are using the fuel price as a scape goat to gouge customers assuming that people wont relate to the fact that i just presented. i say they should present true facts and numbers to support way they want and increase and not just say well gas gone up so we want more fare moneey

No way a bus gets 15mpg, especially the way they are driven by these ******* drivers. Think more like 5mpg tops.

I agree. Doubling the fare is ridiculous, and the only people that are going to profit are the bus drivers. Gas and Diesel has gone up, but it does not warrant a double increase in bus fare.

Gas per barrel have just feel below 140 per barrel so that might juts be good news for most of us and not allow the bus drivers to raise the fares.

i dont know the MPG of the coaster but i am sure its more than 5 mpg becuase it has a 4.0 diesal engine a humer with a 6.0 gas engine gets between 10-12 mpg.
either way sinse the drivers are making money off the gas they are burning there is no need to double the bus fare. fuel is just under six buxks so the first six passenger pay for a gallon of gas. dont be fooled they making dollars.
maybe raise it a quater or fitcy cents but a wholle dollar is ridiculious they trying to price guage thank goodness they have to ask the gov first

dogg dese bus drivers dont care man, if dey gone up 25 or 50 cents maybe ull understand, but dey too damn greedy.
Mizzunderstood 07-08-08, - 07:36 PM Actually we are more concerned about the cost of the fuel (cost increase for bus riders) and finding a new way to bring gas prices lower... if we were concern about the pill we would tell you how it worked and so forth, but when it comes down to it some people have to catch 3 buses to get to work and if there were a way to put gas prices down we would seriuosly like to know.
3 buses to work would be $6.00 then 3 buses back would be another $6 dollars. Minimum wagers usually work 6 days a week. So imagine making $150 per week and and paying $12 x 6 days so thats 150 - 72 which leaves us with $78 dollars per week. How is one to survive? Being realistic. so anyway to bring gas down would be helpful.

correction u only need 2 buses to get anywhere in nassau

Good Day
That depends on where you are going and how fast you need to get there. For example if you are coming from where kendall issacs stadium is You will catch a number 8. Then you will get off the number 8 and catch a 15 by where robinson rd. (town centre mall is) then you will have to hop on a 21 (if you are headed down soldier rd to go work). Sometimes we cant afford to take a trip downtown with all this traffic just to go where we need to be, plus time doesnt permit in the evening when poeple get off at 6pm and buses stop running at 7pm. So actually there are some poeple who have to catch 3 buses to go where they need to be.
