This government and passed government has focus too much on further developing nassau......it is my view that instead of the government building more homes, and encouraging more development in nassau they should try to create more developement on the family islands so that people can move thus helping to.

(1) solve traffic congestion

(2) Free up over crowded schools

(3) Less criminal activity

etc

i was told that some communities on the out islands is fast becoming ghost towns, due to the fact that everyone is moving to nassau in search of employment, every year thousands of kids graduate from school soon there will be no where left to even turn around because of overcrowding and traffic... everyone seems to be in a hurry....

the out islands are crying out for the help and hope promised :hot:

Actually, Nassau is not over crowded. There are all kinds of land and potential space for development. It just seems crowded because everyone wants to live in the immediate city.

Besides which island are you suggesting that they develope. Most of the family islands are now lobbying not to have any large scale development. All they want now is have a small hotel, to ensure everyone is employed, and that's it.

I think government need to consult residents of these islands on their development plans before they go ahead with major projects.

True. Nassau actually provides well for the population that it has. People just need to back off and give some space and air. If people actually saw what it is to live out in a more suburban area intsead of the inner city. You willl probably realize how much better traffic and all life in general would be.

But I though thats what local governments are for. Even though they may not have much power, they should at least lobby for the things that they need, which is basically all they can do.

Seems like the out islands are shying away from big development because some people may not want to become another nassau. Think about it, even though more people will have more money to spend of course bigger populations that come to the island would bring more crime and congestion, if tokem and less than token law enforcement and town planning are put in place. And there's also the environmental fears by people who care about that stuff.

Yeah, you would think that of all the millions and millions of dollars the government throw away on consultancy services someone would already told them about the islands and what they can do or how to shuffle foreign and local investments. You would think of the millions they are spending to widen the roads especially Harold road that still does not allow traffic to enter or exit the highway from a ramp or a turnoff lane.

To turn you still slow down traffic and in some instant even block it just to turn off or turn on to the highway. And the roundabout thing, it sucks! Roundabout is obsolete to the effective flow of traffic here in Nassau and it has been for a long time. How many major cities you can go to in the world where there are roundabout control the traffic? Furthermore people here do not use them right, they either do not head the signs as to which side go around and which side veers to the left or straight ahead, or there are no signs at all. Tourist are afraid to death of the roundabout here, especially those on mopeds.

The government can’t get Nassau right or don’t care, but I am sure they have no discipline for public funds (or perhaps not even their own funds) so imagine what mess they will do with the islands or the funds to develop them. No wonder the residents of those islands protest against any development.

The family island people are wise enough to see that the days of sleeping with their doors open would be over as crime would infiltrate the islands and the people and God forbid even more Haitians will find somewhere to frolic and intensify their illegitimacy.

You said it! Andros, where water doesn't come by boat. Andros, where the streets can be planned wide and straight. Andros, a city built under the Andros, where the US military patrols in their submarines. Andros, where an incinerator burns garbage and the ash is used to build beautiful roads. Andros, close to old Nassau, but not too close. Andros, where a state-of-the-art international airport and seaport should be built.

Why are we all piling up on the 21 x 7? Because that's where government wants us to be under their control. Imagine how different politics would be if there was real political power in constituancies away from Nassau.

It aint that New Providence is crowded its just terrible town planning. The majority of persons in Nassau either work downtown, Cable Beach, Paradise Island or Palmdale. But the majority of persons live in the Southern or Eastern area of NP. So If one has to go to work they have to go north, northwest or northeast. It explains the majority of heavy traffic coming from out east and south.
The government are creating sub-divisions in the west and in the southern half of NP. And the only thing theyre gonna construct down there is a school and a clinic. Whats the use! What should happen is the CREATION OF ANOTHER TOWN CENTER similar to PALMDALE in the GLADSTONE ROAD AREA and ANOTHER CITY within NP around the Adelaide and Clifton area. Complete with banks, restaurants, furniture stores, private and public schools and an organized transportation system etc...That is to accomodate the persons who would be relocating to the south-western and southern half of NP and those that live down there. Therefore there wont be the need to go on the other side of NP to work and do business. Its just a matter of thinking and sensible planning.

I personally believe Andros should be developed for agricultural purposes, so we can put a halt to all this foreign export of fruits and vegeatables. There is so much land that we have to work with. No major hotel developments, we dont need two Nassau's.

I think that Chinese stadium went before it came here. I wouldnt except it. You have to ask yourself what will they want in return? The Communist just dont give 30 million dollar gifts and want nothing in return. We should be cautious and wary with respect to them. This reminds me of the movie Troy (and greek mythology) where the the Trojans or whoever gave the horse and had their soldiers in it and they burned the city. Someone if that sounds a little of please PM the correct story.

Well I hav a lil insight on tha deal & it's my understandin that this is too be a prototype or should I say model stadium. It is to be done in the mode of the pre-fab homes,so I guess you're right they do expect to get sumting in return.

Why hasnt anyone taken advantage of this opportunity already. Has the gov't been plugging this as a self sustaining industry for Bahamians. We are island people, I cant see why not. But its probably a hard sell to the young people who dont want to work in the sun because they have choices. I guess Bahamians would have to be in a position when we dont have choices and we have to go back to the days of eating coco plums and sea grapes fro survival for us to appreciate the little economic sustinance the Bahamas has. Aint no shame in tilling sole to harvest the greatness of God. I mean untimately you have to eat to survive and you know how Bahamians love "dey side dish"
